The idea that a gown is the only option for your wedding has long been thrown out of the bridal fashion window. From suits to separates to jumpsuits, the ball gown alternatives are clearly endless and sometimes more effortlessly chic—especially now that Chanel has introduced the bridal bathing suit.

To close out its haute couture spring 2019 show at the Mediterranean gardens in the Grand Palais in Paris, the fashion house put model Vittoria Ceretti in an embellished one-piece bathing suit in lieu of a traditional wedding dress.

The spaghetti-strap suit featured all-over embellishments and waist-defining cutouts. The look was topped with an embellished bridal swim cap and a shimmery cathedral-length veil. In more of a traditional vein, the Chanel bride donned a red lip.

As Ceretti walked around the garden’s pool, fashion show attendees could visualize what a bathing suit might actually look like on a real bride as she walked down her seaside aisle or poolside venue.

It's a bold but definitely memorable look—yet Chanel manages to keep it classy and timeless. And considering brides are getting married under actual water or opting for illusion dresses, it’s no shock that bridal fashion is racing toward, well, the raciest option out there.
