Celebs Are Flocking to the Bahamas for Their Engagements

The idea of an engagement trip is nothing new, but deciding on where to pop the question will always be a tricky task. If you’ve already decided to go big with a destination proposal, take a cue from a few recent celebrity engagements and travel to the Bahamas with your love.

The Caribbean destination has been the recent backdrop for some of your favorite celebrity dropped-knee moments. In July of last year Justin Bieber proposed to his now-wife Hailey Baldwin in the Baker's Bay area, and most recently Alex Rodriguez proposed to Jennifer Lopez in The Abacos. The Caribbean destination has even been the chosen location for some celeb-studded weddings. Revenge costars Emily VanCamp and Josh Bowman tied the knot there in December of last year, and stayed for their honeymoon.

So what gives the Bahamas it’s star power? Contrary to what you might think, The Bahamas isn’t just one destination. The archipelago is comprised of 700 islands and over 2,000 rocks and cays, so the options are truly endless here for a secluded getaway, making it perfect for a top-secret celeb romance. They can get away from tourist heavy spots like Nassau and take their relationship to the next level with a bit more privacy at one of the "Out Islands."

The Bahamas are also the perfect destination for island hopping. Not only does jetting off for day trips or overnight stays to different islands via boat or private plane add a glam factor to your stay, but it also makes for a super romantic surprise proposal.

Kamalame Cay | Andros, The Bahamas

Located on Andros, Kamalame Cay boasts 27 luxurious seaside rooms and suites, but if you really want your privacy, the private villas are the perfect option. (Serena Williams opted for the four-bedroom oceanfront villa when she stayed at the resort for her honeymoon back in 2017.) For your engagement moon, book the Cay Escapade, a couples package that includes a 60 minute couples massage, snorkeling trip, and picnic. In the midst of all these activities, you’ll find the perfect time to propose.

Grand Isle Resort & Spa | George Town Exuma, Bahamas

If you’re a fan of the Bachelor, Grand Isle Resort & Spa might look familiar. The resort was the location of Ben Higgins' proposal to Lauren Bushnell during season 20. If it was nice enough for a big TV proposal, we imagine you will find the perfect spot here to get on one knee. A variety of villa options means that you can make this a romantic getaway, or invite the family along if you plan on including them in the big moment. While the resort itself offers plenty of amenities, Exuma is also worth exploring. Here you can enjoy swimming with pigs, feeding sting rays and people watching. According to the resort’s website, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Chuck Norris and John Travolta all have homes here.

The Dunmore | Harbour Island, Bahamas

No matter where you stay, Harbour Island really is a must-see destination while in the Bahamas. It’s known for its pink sand beaches made from finely crushed coral over the years. The setting would be the perfect backdrop for a beach proposal, but The Dunmore also has some memorable spots to do the trick. You can transform the backyard of your private cottage or residence with rose petals and candles, or find a quiet spot on the property’s lush grounds to pop the question.

The Cove | Eleuthera Bahamas

The Cove was built for intimate romance. The resort has just 55 rooms and suites—but plenty of property—so you can act like you have the resort all to yourselves. The resort hosts a number of destination weddings, so the people on staff know a little something about setting the scene. They can help you plan a beach dinner under the stars or schedule a private "screening" at the hotel surprising your love with a montage of your relationship before you get down on one knee. To celebrate your newly engaged status, you can explore the rest of Eleuthera and visit landmarks like Hatchet Bay Cave, Glass Window Bridge, and Surfers Beach.

Bahama Beach Club | Abaco, Bahamas

Travel to the same island where A-Rod proposed J.Lo and put that massive emerald-cut engagement ring on her finger. We can’t guarantee that you will be as lucky in the carat department but you can mimic just about everything else at the Bahama Beach Club. (Baker's Bay Club is the actual resort that Lopez and Rodriquez stayed at during their engagement trip, but the resort is member's only.) Here, you still get to experience the island's white-sand beaches and crystal-clear water that are the backyard to Bahama Beach Club. This pretty pink hotel offers tons of fun activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, and deep sea fishing. Off the resort, take a spin in your golf cart to discover the rest of Treasure Cay or take a quick boat ride to Guana Cay to Nipper's Beach Bar & Grill where Bieber reportedly popped the question.
