Celebrity bling is obviously never subtle, but the actual cost of celebrity engagement rings might just make your jaw drop.
London diamond retailer 77 Diamonds have released their annual Celebrity Engagement Ring Trend Report, a data collection that reveals the most popular cuts, colors, and costs for celebrity wedding rings.
Experts examined 100 recent celebrity proposals to determine the most popular ring trends for the year. The results? While every year's winners were slightly different, one thing stays the same: They're all out of your budget.
According to the study, the average cost of a celebrity engagement ring rose to $1.29 million for the first time in 2016. (Sorry to get your hopes up!) Prior to 2017, the most popular color for celebrity engagement rings fell on the silver spectrum, many choosing between white gold and platinum bands. This year, yellow gold reigned as the most prominent metal for A-list ice. In 2013 and 2014, oval cuts were the most prominent style. Since then, emerald style has been the preferred cut.
The study also recorded data about the overall proposal—the most popular time of year, the favorite location, and how much of their money they choose to spend on the ring. The stats are as follows: the most popular time of year for celebrity engagements are during the months of August, December and January. Proposal locations varied by profession, athletes preferring international venues like France and musicians opting for staying in the U.S.
In addition, celebrities proposing for the first time spent an average of 0.39 percent of their entire net worth on the ring, while second timers spent on average six times more on engagement rings—nearly $3,553,000.
Ah, the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Did we really expect anything else?
