While Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's royal wedding, on October 12, will undoubtedly have a star-studded guest list, there's one famous person who reportedly will be notably absent from the pews at St. George's Chapel: Camilla Parker-Bowles.
According to Hello!, the Duchess of Cornwall—who is married to Eugenie's uncle, Prince Charles—will not be attending her niece's nuptials. "The Duchess has a long-standing engagement and didn’t want to let anyone down," a source confirmed the British newspaper. Harper's Bazaar reveals that the "engagement" is a visit to schoolchildren in Scotland, though it is not listed on the royal family's website.
While it may seem a little awkward that Parker-Bowles would skip out on the historic event, royal reporter Victoria Arbiter insists that it is not due to any sort of animosity within the family. "I know it seems odd that Camilla's missing Eugenie's wedding but it doesn't indicate any malice or ill-feeling. Royals don't like to disappoint. Given she'd already committed to attending a school event it's duty first," she wrote on Twitter. When a fan asked about the possibility of rescheduling the event in Scotland, she replied, "Royals often miss family events for pre-scheduled engagements. It's at a school and was scheduled long before. I expect she doesn't want to disappoint the children. She will have spoken to Eugenie about it."
While he won't have his wife by his side, Prince Charles reportedly will be in attendance to see his niece walk down the aisle. The rest of the royal family will likely be there to support Eugenie and Jack, though Kate Middleton may also have to skip out on the festivities if her sister, Pippa Middleton, goes into labor with her first child on or around the day. Also expected to show up? George and Amal Clooney, Ellie Goulding, and 1,200 members of the public.
