If you've been to enough weddings, you've likely seen the whole second dress trend in action: bride gets married in breathtakingly beautiful formal gown, then enters the reception in a much more casual look she can comfortably move in. While the ability to walk at a normal pace is obviously a valid reason to switch up your look post-ceremony, it's certainly not the only one. Here are four more great excuses to invest in a second wedding dress, some of which you may not have thought of.
1. You can't boogey down in your main gown
Whether it's too tight, voluminous or you're just worried about tripping on the bottom of it and breaking a leg, if dancing on your big day is a top priority (and for most brides it is), you'll definitely want to change into a different dress for your wedding reception. You know, one you can actually shake what your momma gave you in.
2. It gets hot!
Brides-to-be planning a tropical summer wedding in a humid environment may find that it's in their best interest to have a shorter and lighter dress to rock after their walk down the aisle, particularly if perspiration is a problem. A sweaty bride is so not hot.
3. Your dress is way too hard to pee in
Sure, your bridesmaids promised to help you out anytime you needed to take a bathroom break, but honestly it sounds like much more of a hassle than it's really worth and one you'd rather not have to deal with on your wedding day. The less stress, the happier the bride (AKA you) is. Plus, you're trying to party here, not waste precious time with a team of peeps on the potty.
4. You're planning to hit the town post-wedding
And bar hopping in a full-on wedding dress simply doesn't seem practical or good for your gown either. In addition to the likelihood that it'll get (even more) messed up, can you imagine attempting to move around or get past people in a crowded bar with a huge dress on?
