Busy Philipps just showed us all up on the Mother's Day gifts front this past week, when she showed up to brunch rocking a wedding dress—her mother's wedding dress! Super casual brunch attire, right? Let me just eat some pancakes and down some orange juice wearing this bridal gown, k? Totally normal, nothing to see here. … But surprisingly, the actress totally pulled off the look, thanks to her mom's super chic 1960s wedding-day frock. And unsurprisingly, her mom of course cried all the tears.
Currently, Philipps is sailing around with her fam on a Disney Cruise, which has just so happened to coincide with both her parent's 50th anniversary (congrats, you two!) and Mother's Day. So what's a daughter to do? Brunch in her mom's wedding dress, natch!
The Dawson's Creek alum had snuck the short and flirty mod minidress her mother had donned for her I dos aboard the ship and then slipped into it on Thursday, the day of her parents' anniversary, for brunch with the 'rents and her sister—who we assume was thinking, I wish I thought of that!
"As a surprise to my mom, I brought her wedding dress on the cruise and wore it to brunch this morning," Philipps captioned a photo of herself and her crew. "Lucky for me they got married in the '60s and it’s a super cute A-line mini so I wasn't walking around this boat in a floor length wedding dress!"
TBH, this wedding dress is so chic and effortless, we'd totally wear it out and about. (That flirty above-the-knee hemline certainly ups its re-wear factor!)
The actress went on to say that her mom burst into tears (duh!), and also a posted a pic from back when her mom rocked the dress herself on her wedding day, a whopping 50 years ago.
"#tbt to 1967!!! HAPPY 50th ANNIVERSARY TO MY PARENTS Barbara and Joe!" she captioned the sepia snapshot. And like mother, like daughter, both lovely ladies look stunning in the frock.
