We, like 1.3 million other people, follow Busy Philipps on Instagram. We watch her every story, from her Lekfit workouts to her musings on life and interactions with her adorable daughters. The one thing we notice in every post, filter or no filter, is that her skin always is radiant and glowing. That statement applies whether or not she’s wearing a full face of makeup. When we found out that Toska Husted, of Toska European Spa in Charlotte, NC, is often behind Philipps’s gorgeous glow, we couldn’t help but reach out to her.
Husted is one of our favorite skincare experts in the industry—we’ve flown to North Carolina just to get a facial from her, she’s that good—so it’s not hard to see why Philipps loves her, too. Jennifer Aniston is also a client, if we’re going to name drop. But our query for Husted was bridal based: after all, Philipps's consistently amazing skin is exactly what a bride-to-be wants, right? Especially with all of the events leading up to the wedding, like the engagement party, bridal shower, and bachelorette.
So here, Husted shares her top ten skincare tips for brides. Spoiler alert: there are no magic overnight fixes—these tips start from the inside out.
No matter how good or expensive a product is, nobody can get clear skin in a day. Husted recommends booking a consultation with an aesthetician six months before your wedding to find the skincare regimen that will work best for you. “You’ll undoubtedly see results,” she says. “Keep in mind that nobody’s skin is exactly the same, so talking with an aesthetician can help you choose what is right for you.”
It might sound boring, but it’s true: consistency is key.
In addition to your at-home regimen, being a bride is the time when you can justify splurging on professional treatments. Going to your aesthetician monthly for a facial will give your complexion that extra dose of radiance everyone wants for their weddings.
Skincare doesn’t end with the face—especially if you’re wearing a strapless wedding gown.
“Other areas of your body, namely the neck and back, are often neglected,” Husted says. “If you want to look good from head to toe, you have to work on yourself from top to bottom.” She recommends using Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 Corps on your back after showering, which will help get rid of congestion, oil, and blemishes. Since the skin on your back is stronger than your face, you usually need a stronger product that’s made for your body to see an improvement. But Husted says you can use Biologique Recherche Lotion P50, which is our all-time favorite toner for the face, on your neck and chest.

Pay attention to what you eat.
“One very important facet in your skin’s health, which most people tend to ignore, is diet,” she says. “Eating nutrient-rich foods with antioxidants, and drinking lots of water, will keep your body healthy from the inside out. Staying hydrated will prevent your skin from becoming dry and will improve elasticity, which keeps your face looking bright and youthful.” A glowing-skin diet, in a nutshell: avocado, fish, berries, leafy greens, olive oil, nuts, and other fruits and veggies.
On that note, cut the salt.
“Too much sodium can spell trouble for your skin,” Husted says. “Your body wants to maintain a particular salt-to-water ratio, which is approximately the same salinity as seawater. When you consume foods high in sodium, your body starts retaining more water to keep up that ratio. This leads to puffiness and swelling in your hands, feet, stomach, and face—and particularly puffiness under the eyes.”
Hit the treadmill.
Or run outside, or do Lekfit, or whatever you like—the key is to exercise regularly and get your heart pumping. “While exercise is undoubtedly good for your overall health, it also helps your skin specifically by promoting healthy circulation,” Husted says. “Increased blood flow nourishes your skin cells with oxygen, and also carries waste products away in the bloodstream. Stress is also diminished by regular exercise, and too much stress can cause the sebaceous glands to produce more oil.”
Target your eyes.
That’s where you’ll first show signs of tiredness. (Wedding planning been keeping you up?) You don’t want to use anything too heavy around the eye area, because that’s where your most delicate skin is, but a light product made specifically for the eyes will do. Pat it on with your index finger, as that finger has the lightest touch. We like It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Eye Cream.

Don’t underestimate the power of great eyebrows.
The shape of your eyebrows can dramatically change the way your face is framed, Husted says. It makes such a huge impact on the overall look of your face, so don’t pluck them! Let your eyebrows grow in for a few months, and then see a specialist to find the eyebrow shape that will flatter you most. When it comes to maintaining on your own, be conservative and only pluck the obviously stray hairs for full, striking eyebrows by your wedding day.
Bulk up your everyday routine with masks.
If you follow Busy on Instagram, you know she’s a fan of masks. Husted is, too. “Deep cleansing masks are your friend when it comes to treating and preventing stubborn skin issues,” she says. She likes Biologique Recherche Masque VIP 02 for brightening. We also like Tata Harper Clarifying Mask for blemish-prone skin.

PS: Don’t forget that your scalp is skin, too!
“Despite being mostly hidden and off your mind, it deserves some attention,” Husted says. “Healthy hair starts right at the root, so you want to make sure the scalp is balanced as well.” For oiliness and dandruff, she recommends spraying Biologique Recherche Hair Lotion P50 Capillaire on your roots before a shower. Oribe’s Serene Scalp Soothing Leave-On Treatment, which we also love, has chamomile and mint to soothe and balance the scalp. (Plus, it comes in a chic light pink bottle that you’ll love to keep on your vanity table.)
