We’re convinced—the love of your life is in your phone. It seems like the most epic love stories these days all originated on an app, and here’s another one if you’re not already a believer.
Michela, an entrepreneur, matched with Brenton, a neurosurgeon, on the dating app Bumble in which the women have to message first to start the conversation. “First swipe, only date,” Michela told Bumble.
“Her first message was, ‘hey,’ Brenton said. “There was no pickup line and my reply was ‘hey, what’s up?’ ”
That’s all it took. Their first date at a little Indian restaurant—where both claimed to know each other was the “the one”—turned into a whirlwind romance leading up to this incredible proposal.
“I’ve never met someone who’s more selfless and thoughtful and caring,” Brenton said. “She’s like the yin to my yang; we complement each other very nicely. I mean, what more can you ask for?"
Unknowingly, Michela said the same thing about her bae.
“He’s incredibly intelligent,” she said. “I remember the first time I heard him on the phone with a patient. He was so kind. It was really late at night, probably 2 a.m. But that patient doesn’t know that he’s so tired, that she’s waking him up in the middle of the night. He’s so selfless.”
Brenton reached out to Bumble about their love match, and how he wanted to do something special for his bride-to-be. Bumble helped create a winter wonderland snowball fight for this couple, both of whom hold the seasonal "sport" near and dear to their hearts.
“Every year we end up in a snowball fight,” Brenton said. “When the snow falls, it’s a fun thing to do to throw snowballs at people you care about. We can’t have snow on the floor and not throw it at each other.”

Brenton brought Michela to the scene, wonderfully decorated by the folks at Bumble with fake snow, flocked Christmas trees, and dazzling lights, thinking they were attending a friend’s holiday party. When the first snowball hit she could tell something was up.
All their friends and family popped out from behind the trees, snowballs in hand, waiting to greet the couple, and like anyone who's being proposed to, screaming and tears ensued.
“I wish I could have been more elegant or picked up a snowball and hit someone with it,” Michela said of the moment. “But I just started crying because it’s everything I’ve ever wanted and it’s happening now. And I can’t contain myself, so I just stomp around crying."
Next, Brenton got down on one knee with an amazing sparkler—can you guess how Michela responded? She said yes (!), followed by more screaming, naturally. Who wouldn’t, especially with an engagement ring like that?
“I want her to know how much this moment means and how long I’ve been planning this…I’ve been planning this for a year,” Brenton told Bumble when they asked about the ring.
All the planning was definitely worth it. Brenton’s new fiancé couldn’t be more excited.
“This place is beautiful,” she said. “It’s incredible. It’s more than I ever wanted in a proposal. I think people will be really, really jealous, actually.”
You’re not wrong, Michela. Congratulations to this happy couple! Watch the full proposal below.
