Acting as a bridesmaid in your friend or family member's wedding is no simple task — just ask Grace Ryan, a 16-year-old bridesmaid serving in her brother's wedding when she suddenly fainted at the alter during the bride and groom's first kiss as man and wife.
Newlyweds Kevin Kennedy Ryan and Jessica Ryan Smith were leaning in to share their first official married smooch when Kevin's 16-year-old sister fell to the ground next to the couple. "As we were leaning in you just heard this huge thud," Ryan, 25, told ABC News. "I first thought she'd tripped over something, so I stifled a laugh."
The groom said his sister's collapse was due to Chicago's summer heat — which is no joke when your wedding venue is filled with floor-to-ceiling windows. "I'm pretty sure it was the hottest day of the year," Ryan said of his July 25 wedding. "We'd all been standing in the sun doing pictures...I know I was dripping with sweat."
After drinking some water and giving her feet a much-needed break, Grace was back in her standing bridesmaid's position next to Ryan and Jessica, who finally got to share their first kiss.
A wedding photographer snapped a photo capturing the scene of the newlyweds about to share their first kiss with a bridesmaid sprawled out on the ground next to them, complete with one heel dangling off her foot. Ryan shared the photo on Imgur on August 16 — as of Tuesday, it had over two million views — with the caption: "My sister passed out at the exact moment the judge said 'you may kiss the bride.'"
