What do you get when you cross bridezilla behavior with some good old-fashioned body shaming? This bride who recently posted on Reddit asking for advice about a friend she was considering barring from her bridal party because of the size of her chest. That's right, it all came down to cup size.
The bride described her "dilemma" in Reddit's "Am I the A**hole" (AITA) section. The potential bridesmaid in question, Erin, is a childhood friend of the bride dating back to grade school and is part of a trio with another friend, Kristy, who was asked to be in the bridal party.
"Erin has MASSIVE breasts. Literally bigger than should be physiologically possible because she has a hormone disorder that caused her breasts to grow to an excessive degree. We (as in Erin's mom, doctor, Kristy, me, and just about everyone else important in Erin's life) have been encouraging her to get a breast reduction surgery for years now, but she just won't follow through with it because she's terrified of surgery," wrote the poster. "That's beside the point though. I originally planned on asking Erin to be a bridesmaid, but then I started thinking about the logistics of getting a bridesmaid dress tailored to fit her dimensions and how she won't be capable of wearing a strapless dress because she can't do strapless bras.
Also Erin has these shoulder pads for her bra straps that she's insecure about, so she would need a dress with sleeves realistically, and does that mean I have to settle on a bridesmaid dress with sleeves for all the girls to wear in the heat of summer? Or does Erin have to be the only one wearing a different dress? It stressed me out immensely, and I felt that it would be borderline impossible to find a resolution that wouldn't somehow embarrass and/or ostracize Erin."
Wow, what a friend.
She also worried that Erin would be a "distraction" from the wedding festivities. The thread subsequently went viral and the woman was almost universally told by commenters that, yes, she was indeed the a**hole. Even her IRL friend Kristy told her as much. “The only giant boob here is you,” wrote one such commenter. “I’d reconsider before you lose a good friend over something as trifling as a dress.” Another wrote: "YTA. An awful friend, too. You purposely excluded someone you called a friend from your wedding because of something she has no control over.
You even reduced her to being a distraction. Honestly? You're not a good friend. You're absolutely acting like a Bridezilla and I hope that you consider how poorly you are treating her."
Luckily it seems the bride has come to her senses, but not before causing pain to one of her supposed close friends over the size and shape of her body. "I plan to sit down with Erin, apologize, and do what I can to fix the situation," the original poster wrote in an update. "I will provide an update on how that conversation goes if people are interested. Either way, I really am grateful, and DEEPLY humbled, by this response."
Honestly, we wouldn't be surprised if Erin said no after all this drama.
