Unfortunately, we've all had our fair share of texts sent to the incorrect phone number. Usually, it's no biggie and nothing ever comes of it, but one bride-to-be mistakenly texted actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, making this the luckiest wrong number texting situation to date.
Future bride Charlyn Willis got engaged December 14, and excitedly snapped an engagement ring selfie in her car. In the photo, Charlyn is all-smiles as she flaunts her new sparkler, which appears to feature a gorgeous cushion-cut diamond. Hurrying to share the news with her sister, Charlyn sent the photo via text, not realizing that she'd mistakenly dialed in the wrong number. Which, when you have such incredible news to share, is an honest mistake. We mean, who has time to doublecheck phone numbers when there's an engagement ring selfie that needs to be shared ASAP!?
While Charlyn didn't get a response from her sibling, she got an even better reply than she bargained for—a text back from the one and only Sarah Michelle Gellar. Turns out, messing up one of the ten digits of her sister's phone number put Charlyn in direct contact with Gellar. The technology gods were definitely on Charlyn's side.
The former Buffy the Vampire Slayer used her fame for good, taking to Facebook to repost Charlyn's selfie and encouraging her fans to congratulate the newly-betrothed couple.
"This is #CharlynWillis," Gellar wrote in the post accompanying the photo. "She got engaged yesterday, and meant to text her sister, but in all the excitement, got me instead. Her sister didn’t respond, but I did. So please help me say congrats, to Charlyn. (And her fiancé whose name I don’t know) #congratulations."
Now, Charlyn's selfie is on its way to viral status, with Gellar's Facebook post reaching 11,000 likes and 125 shares. The social media post generated an outpouring of best wishes for the future bride and her new fiancé, and Charlyn herself even commented in response.
"Omg! Thank you Sarah! His name is Dennis! Thank you so much for this," Charlyn wrote, also solving the mystery of her fiancé's name. "You’ve truly made my engagement experience even more of a life changer! Please know when we set a date, I’ll be reaching out to invite you, Freddie, and the kids!" This promise better be fulfilled.
Gellar herself knows a thing or two about successful marriage—she's been happily wed to fellow '90s hottie Freddie Prinze Jr. for 15 years. She recently revealed the key to making their marriage work, and it's shockingly simple—having a separate bathroom from her husband. (Hear that, Charlyn?) The duo met in 1997, and tied the knot in a beach wedding in Mexico back in 2002. We hope the Willises have an equally prosperous marriage, separate bathrooms and all.
With her engagement off to such a thrilling (and potentially viral) start, we're confident this is a sign that Charlyn's wedding will be equally grand (especially if Gellar makes the guest list). Congratulations to the engaged couple, and may we all strive for similar luck in our future misdialed texts.
