As far as dream wedding singers go, ’90s crooner Brian McKnight and his romantic tunes often top many a bride’s wish list. And this New Year’s Eve, McKnight did have a starring role in a wedding, but he wasn’t leading the reception band or crooning a first-dance song—he was the groom! That’s right: Brian McKnight recently tied the knot, marrying his love, Leilani Malia Mendoza, on New Year's Eve. And judging by the wedding photos, this was one sparkly party. (Just take a look at that dress!)
McKnight and Mendoza, who have been together since 2014, first announced their engagement in May 2017 with an adorable Instagram post. “She said yes,” McKnight captioned the sweet selfie of himself and his bride, with her engagement ring in full view. “Took me 42 years to find her and I’m never letting her go I’m so in love with you baby.” Now, seven months later, McKnight announced his newly married status in similar fashion, with a stunning social media snapshot.
“Ladies and Gentlemen introducing Mr. and Mrs. Brian McKnight,” the singer wrote alongside a photo of him sharing a smooch with his new wife, the two of them all decked out in their wedding attire. According to social media, the nuptials took place on New Year’s Eve at New York’s Oheka Castle, where you might remember Dancing With the Stars’s Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy also said their I do’s.
But the regal venue had no chance of outshining this bride and groom. While McKnight kept things classic in a traditional black tux, Mendoza shined bright in a one-of-a-kind, super-sheer wedding dress designed by Sabrina & Mannings. According to the design house's Instagram, the flirty frock was covered in 50,000 Swarovski crystals and took over a month of hand-beading to execute.
No word yet if McKnight, who was previously married to Julie McKnight for 13 years, pulled double wedding duty and sang at his own nuptials. But even if the night didn’t conclude in a personal serenade from the R&B singer, this still seems like one hell of a New Year’s Eve party.
