Ever wonder who’s the inspo behind your favorite singer’s love songs? Country star Brett Young just revealed his muse—and she now doubles as his fiancée! Yep, the “Mercy” singer is officially engaged.
Young finally asked his longtime girlfriend Taylor Mills to become his wife earlier this month according to People, and the two couldn’t sound happier. “We are both more excited than we can express and looking forward to starting this chapter of our lives together,” they told the entertainment mag.
This chapter comes nearly 10 years after their initial meeting. Young told People that they first met in Scottsdale, Arizona, when Mills was in school, and they dated for six years. They moved to Los Angeles together once she graduated, but called it quits when his career took him to Nashville.
“When I moved to Nashville, we took a break for a few years, and I wrote a lot of my first record about her,” he said. “There was never any bad blood; it was just the wrong time for us. We recently got back in touch and realized that we were both finally in the same place and knew it was right.” So right, in fact, that he knew it was time to ask that BIG little question.
Young popped the question at the Graduate hotel near the University of Mississippi, Young’s alma mater.
“We met in Arizona while she was at school at ASU, and we will likely get married there, so I thought it would be romantic to propose where I went to school,” he explained. “We were able to get a suite with a large covered patio and the hospitality staff at the hotel set it up while we were at dinner, so it was waiting for us when we got back.”
The suite was decked out with some bubbly, rose petals galore, and candles. Swoon. If that set up wasn’t enough to make Mills say yes, the custom engagement ring certainly was. Young also shared a glimpse of the sparkler in his Instagram post, above.
With the help of David M. Kodner of David Kodner Personal Jewelers, Young chose and designed a stunning solitaire diamond ring on a diamond band fit for a queen. Their engraved initials was the icing on the already-blinged-out cake.
Now that these two are official, hopefully we can get some more tracks about l-o-v-e out of Young. Congratulations, you two!
