Graphic eyeliner is trending big-time right now — and it can be a gorgeous bridal look, too. "A statement eye is a great way to ensure you're memorable both in person and in images," says makeup artist José Rivera. Here's how to do it right.
Pick a color.
Vibrant shades like emerald or violet are perfect to rock at your bachelorette party; white liner looks fresh and crisp on a honeymoon getaway. For your big day though, keep things relatively classic. A dark, nearly-black navy, forest green, or purple adds the slightest hint of color. And of course, you can always stay safe with brown or black!
Choose the right formula.
Waterproof gel liners create a sharper, more precise line. Plus, "They won't fade before you do!" says Rivera. Try Benefit's They're Real Push-Up Liner. Pencil versions, like L'Oreal Colour Riche Eyeliner, are great for a softer, more diffused effect. ($24, available at Benefit Cosmetics and $8.95, available at L'Oreal Paris)
Pair it right.
When your liner is colorful, keep things balanced by making sure the rest of your makeup stays somewhat understated. That means a subtle, matte lip color (we love Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in La Raffinee) and a shimmery neutral taupe or champagne shadow — try CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadow in Champagne. *($36, available at Chanel and $2.64, available at drugstore.com) *
Skip the contouring.
It can look too heavy with bold eyes. Instead, opt for highlighting — also known as "strobing" — only. Smooth a highlighter (we like Kjaer Weis Highlighter in Radiance) to your cheekbones, bridge of the nose, and cupids bow, and you're good to go. "The key is to have the makeup enhance your natural look versus correct or change it," says Rivera. ($56, available at Kjaer Weis)
