Country singer Blake Shelton was not looking for love after his divorce from fellow country star Miranda Lambert was finalized, in 2015. However, not long after his surprising split from his long-time girlfriend and wife of four years, Shelton began dating The Voice co-star Gwen Stefani, who had also just divorced from her ex-husband of nearly 13 years, Gavin Rossdale. "When I was going through my divorce, I hit rock bottom just like anybody does when they go through something that devastating," Shelton, 42, tells Willie Giest in an upcoming episode of Sunday Today With Willie Geist.
"It's a miracle that I met somebody that was going through the same exact thing that I was at the exact same moment in time."
Just because Shelton and Stefani bonded over their mutual heartbreak, that doesn't mean they thought they would find true love together; in fact, they thought the opposite. "I think if Gwen and I were being honest right now, talking about this, I think in the back of our minds we both kind of thought, This is a rebound deal because we're both coming out of a pretty low spot in our lives and we're kind of clinging to each other to get through this," Shelton said.
Three years later, the two have an unexpectedly strong relationship. "Every day that goes by, it just feels like a stronger bond between the two of us," Shelton continued, gushing about his relationship. "It constantly feels like it's going to the next level. That's the only way I think either one of us could probably describe it."
Perhaps the next level for this couple will be a walk down the aisle—Luke Bryan has already volunteered to officiate.
