Bill de Blasio, the current mayor of New York City, may also be the mayor of Pissing Off His Wife.
Take the following amusing story with a very large grain of salt given the circumstances: According to De Blasio's current Democratic primary rival for mayor, Sal Albanese, De Blasio was more than an hour and a half late to his own nuptials to his wife Chirlane McCray. That fateful 1994 day in Prospect Park apparently made guests antsy, sweaty, and just plain grumpy as to what was transpiring, and they allegedly couldn't believe he would be late for such a special day. “There was no shade. My wife was furious and kept nudging me,” Albanese said, according to Page Six. “She almost got me to leave.” (Albanese is clearly making up for that lack of shrubbery shade with some grade-A political shade of his own.)
Of course, did this actually happen, or was this all a nice little wedding tale to gain Albanese favor as his mayoral campaign presses forward against his former friend? Only you can decide, although we have to note that De Blasio does indeed have a track record for being, well, perpetually late to events as mayor, which has earned him a less than super-great reputation with New Yorkers over the past few years. He and McCray are still happily married with two college-age children, though, so maybe Albanese's tale won't gain as much negative traction as he'd like.
