Earlier this week, The Bachelor's Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell announced their breakup, and in the five stages of grief, we're all still in denial. Ben and Lauren were probably the best thing to have emerged from the Bachelor mansion in recent years (#sorrynotsorry, Corinne…), and despite the expiration date stamped on many reality-TV relationships, we really thought we'd at least get a televised wedding special out of these two. But if we're upset over this breakup, we can only imagine how the people involved must feel. Actually, speculation isn't necessary; Ben Higgins himself has just broken his silence over his recent split from Bushnell and is telling the world exactly how he feels.
So how does it feel to be a bachelor once more, Ben? In his new podcast with fellow Bachelor Nation star Ashley Iaconetti, Higgins got real on life after Lauren, stating, "Just to be as politically correct as possible and to also be as truthful as possible, Lauren will always be one of my best friends," Higgins sweetly shared, according to E! News. "It's [a relationship] where I learned a lot about myself; I think she learned a lot about herself. Obviously, she knows me better than anybody else that has gone through this experience, and really probably anybody else in the world. It's tough."
"It's hard to say goodbye to somebody that you spent so much time with," Higgins continued. "And it's hard to say goodbye to somebody that you really did believe was the one for you."
We love that there's no bad blood between the pair, but we're still curious as to why the breakup happened in the first place. Give us our answers, Ben!
"I think mutually Lauren and I saw that life was getting more difficult," Higgins said. "I would say the joy that we felt toward our relationship at the beginning was—for some reason—slipping away, and we were both working very hard to bring that joy back. And it just never seemed to get there. So it was a long time coming, but it wasn't necessarily like we dragged it out."
"It was for the best," he noted, continuing, "Life is going to be good, and I know that from past experiences, any type of brokenness…Oftentimes those situations can be turned into a beautiful thing. I think that's what's going to happen here and that's what I'm confident in today.… I believe that Lauren and I both will come out of this with a whole new season that is going to be very good for the both of us."
He added, "I am a better man today because of Lauren and because of our relationship than I was two years ago."
But while Higgins might be a "better man" because of Lauren, his house definitely doesn't sound better off; Bushnell took all their furniture!
"My house and I are feeling very similar: sad, mourning, a little empty," Higgins continued, according to People, which also scored a podcast preview. "But, I do have my whiskey cart left."
"I'm currently leaving here today to go furniture shopping," Higgins said. "And it's hard to look around my house now and know that she’s not going to be there."
"It is rightfully hers; it should be hers," he explained of the furniture. "And that's okay, but it's hard now. It's difficult to have that piece removed."
Ugh. We're now in serious need of a glass of Bachelor rosé after hearing all that.…
