By now, you probably know how much we love, love, love seeing photos of pets at weddings. From puppies to bunnies, we're pretty keen on adding pictures of little fluffballs in brides' arms to our Insta page so that you can melt a little bit inside, too. But now, a surprising new trend is popping up in our newsfeeds: Beluga whale ceremonies. And the photos from these aquarium weddings are actually whaley, whaley cute. Ok, bad pun, we know. But can you blame us?!
If you're on the hunt for a whale wedding yourself, you may sadly find your options are limited. It turns out the destination for such aquatic nuptials is prettyyy much only at one spot in the U.S., and that's in Connecticut. The Mystic Aquarium, according to their website, is the largest outdoor beluga whale exhibit in the United States, and they've been hosting these underwater-esque weddings for quite some time now. Back in 2013, Juno the beluga whale created quite a stir, erm splash?, when he appeared to expertly photobomb a couple's wedding-day photos.
"That was just a lucky photo," Amanda Leigh told ABC News of the photo above. "We were down in front of the aquarium taking pictures. We paused to fix the dress and the whale happened to come over. My husband and I looked behind us and he was right there, like, 'Hello.' He was really showing off for the crowd. He's amazing."
So, wait... even if you have your ceremony/reception at the aquarium, you aren't guaranteed to have adorbs beluga photobombs?! Talk about a buzzkill. But if all of the other whales are anything like friendly Juno, we have a feeling you'll get the snap of a lifetime. And hey, maybe some of his friends will join in on the fun!
Alright, so who wants to sign up? Because honestly what could possibly top a huge, smiling beluga hovering over your shoulder as you say your "I do's"? Umm, nothing obviously.
