Valentine's Day can mean something different to everyone, but it can also be all the more exciting when you're newly engaged or married. Yet even though you've snagged yourself a #ValentineForLife, it's still super important to be your own valentine, too.
It's easy to get wrapped up in a day that celebrates love, but you should be sure to celebrate the day with some self-love too. (Not just for V-Day, but every day!) Because as they say, you can't truly love someone until you love yourself.
Whether it's a day out at a fancy spa or some DIY services from the comfort of your own bathroom, why not devote some time to take care of yourself, your skin and your hair? Facials, mani/pedis, and some much-needed massages are not only ways to melt away stress while accomplishing some pre-wedding beauty tasks, but we're pretty sure that they're also good for the soul.
Have you had your eye on a special bag that was just a tad too expensive? In desperate need for a cut and color? Or, have you been working hard on your fitness and seriously missing some ice cream? Just this once, why not treat yourself? Sometimes a break in routine or a momentary splurge is just what you need for a pickup, confidence boost or to increase those happy-feeling-providing serotonin levels. Come on, life is short—and it's a special occasion!
Take a Time Out
As kids, time outs were dreaded and terrible but as adults, they're so special. Sometimes, the best way to really treat yourself is to do absolutely nothing at all. Whether it's for ten minutes, a solo night in, or an entire day spent in bed reading and watching trash tv, everyone deserves a time out. Schedule some time to be completely unscheduled and you'll soon see it's a real gift.
Celebrate Your Galentine's Day
Valentine's Day is a day of love, and aside from your partner, you love your best gals, too. Whether they're single or taken, try to plan a time to get together somewhere close to Valentine's Day to have a Galentine's Day (more info on fun Galentine's Day activities here!). Whether it's a boozy brunch, spa day, movie night or just a pajama and pizza kind of night, it's equally important to have some time celebrating your friendship as it is your love.
Get it Done
Procrastinators, this one is for you. While it may sound silly to put yourself to work while trying to be your own valentine, hear us out. Having a lingering task list you've been putting off for days or weeks can be stressful and annoying. So, why not practice some self-care and get stuff done? This is one of those things that might not sound so fun, but you'll never regret doing it. Plus, what's a better gift to yourself than the gift of an empty To-Do list?
