It was only a matter of time: Proposing via halved-avocados is now a thing. Just when you thought millennials were running out of ways to perpetuate brunch culture in everyday life, the new avocado marriage proposal is making its way around the internet, and it's just as gimmicky as you'd guess.
Earlier this month, a food stylist and photographer posted an image of a diamond ring smushed inside a halved avocado with the caption, “tag someone who should propose like this.” And apparently, a couple thousand people think they know someone who should propose like this. A handful of Instagram posts have even cropped up over the past few weeks depicting young couples adopting this trend, and it's ~so millennial~.
But, as Today points out, this trend is far from new. An Instagram snapshot from two years ago features a man down on one knee with an avocado, proving that questions popped with a side of guac have been around for a while. The Instagrammer wrote of her proposal, " I couldn't help but share the BEST & most creative proposal/best day of my life in honor of 6 months until we say I do!!!! now where is the avocado emoji?!"
Another man, 17 months ago, was also snapped by a photographer proposing to his girlfriend with an avocado.
Though we have yet to see a significant amount of couples testing out this very 2018 trend, there are plenty of Instagrammers who have shared the food blogger's photo and hinted that they are down for a very health-conscious proposal, too. "100 times YES" one Instagrammer captioned the photo.
So, if you are so inclined, ditch that timeless little velvet ring box and head on over to the nearest Whole Foods, because who doesn't love a multi-purpose proposal. (Guac, anyone?)
