Bachelor alum Arie Luyendyk Jr. has another title to add to his growing list—proud papa! The realtor/reality star/race car driver became a dad on May 29, when wife Lauren Burnham gave birth to the couple’s first child!
Luyendyk Jr., 37, documented his journey to fatherhood on Instagram Stories, giving fans updates on Burnham’s progress.
“Alright guys, it was a long night, she’s doing good, but no baby yet!” the bleary-eyed TV personality said in one clip from the hospital. “I stepped out to get some breakfast, I didn’t want to make her jealous, because she’s really hungry.”
Later on, he filmed his spouse as she laid in a hospital bed with an oxygen mask over her face. “OK, getting close, we’re both emotional messes and it hasn’t even started yet,” he said before panning over to Burnham. “Did a practice push and we’re already bawling our eyes out,” she shared.
The twosome then took guesses on their soon-to-be baby’s weight (6 lbs,18oz for Burnham and 7lbs for Luyendyk) and hair color (“I think she’s gonna come out with really dark hair and then it’s gonna turn blonde,” Luyendyk quipped.)
As it turns out, Burnham’s guess was closer, at least as far as weight went: She shared a photo of the crying newborn on Instagram on Thursday, May 30. “Alessi Ren Luyendyk. Born May 29, 2019 @ 2:09pm. 6lbs, 13 oz. 20 inches long. She is sweet, calm and @ariejr and I could not be more in love with her,” she wrote.
The proud new dad also showed off his little one on the ‘gram, sharing a shot of his daughter gazing up at him. "This was first time she laid eyes on me and I’m forever changed," he captioned the snap.
He also gave props to his wife writing, “I’m so proud of you @laurenburnham … You’re truly incredible and you did so good today.”
Luyendyk and Burnham’s love story began on season 22 of the ABC hit, though they didn’t get their fairytale ending right off the bat: The series ended with the show lead sending Burnham home and asking Becca Kufrin for her hand in marriage.
He later called things off with Kufrin to rekindle his romance with Burnham, however, and the rest, as they say, is history: The pair went on to say their “I dos” in January 2019, just two months after they had announced that Burnham was pregnant.
"Obviously we're not married yet, but this is the way it happened," Burnham told Us Weekly at the time. "And this is probably the way it was meant to happen!"
Hear, hear. Congratulations to the happy couple!
