Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt: the power couple that could have been?

Hathaway took to Instagram on Tuesday to respond to a People headline that read "John Krasinski Jokes That He Romanced Emily Blunt Because He Couldn't Get Anne Hathaway." She posted a photo of the story along with the caption, "John, I’m only with Adam because I couldn’t get Emily," referring to the real reason she married husband Adam Shulman.

The whole thing started earlier this week when Krasinski appeared on The Graham Norton Show and joked that he had only married Blunt because Hathaway, her Devil Wears Prada costar, was already taken. Turns out, he was a huge fan of the movie long before he was married to one of its stars, and says he's probably seen it 72 (repeat: 72) times.

“It’s one of those things that back in the day, us elderly people used to channel surf. Nobody does that anymore,” Krasinski told Norton of the iconic movie. “It’s just one of those movies that whenever you’re going through the channels, you just stop and you look.”

The actor had apparently “stopped and looked” at the film so many times that he had a favorite outfit in Anne Hathaway's makeover montage scene. “There’s a sort of montage sequence where Anne Hathaway’s got numerous fabulous outfits that they go through,” Blunt remembers. “And John, one day I came home, and he was watching it and he was watching the montage bit. And he goes, ‘That’s my favorite outfit.’” (FYI: It's the one with the beanie.)

It's at this point that he joked Blunt was his second choice after her costar. “I couldn’t get Annie and so I was like, ‘Ohhhh...’” he said.

When Krasinski and Blunt met IRL—at a restaurant, where they were both dining with friends—his love for the film was apparently one of the first things he brought up. “When we first met, I was like, ‘I just want to get it out of the way — I’m a huge fan of yours,’” Krasinski said. “I was full stalker-status. I was like, ‘Hey, you want to go out on a date with me?’” At the time, Blunt was aware that Krasinski was “vaguely recognizable,” but then went home and binge watched The Office. But 10 months later, they were married, and the rest is history.

Bet we can guess what's on their DVR list.
