We never saw this coming. After eight years of marriage, actors Anna Faris and Chris Pratt announced that they're legally separating. The couple that was once known as our celebrity #marriagegoals, shared the sad news via social media. Faris shared the joint statement via Instagram, while Pratt posted the announcement on his Facebook page.
“We are sad to announce we are legally separating,” the statement read. “We tried really hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep the situation as private as possible moving forward. We still love each other and will always cherish our time together.”
Naturally, the Internet was distraught over the news, and reactions were swift. Despite fans wanting the best for both actors, this kind of news just sucks.
Just weeks before the split, Faris admitted that life in the spotlight put a strain on her marriage. “I don’t think that’s something, when you’re an actor, that you’re prepared for,” she revealed to People back in July. “There are two different roles that you play — the one on-camera and the one in public. That’s the tricky part.”
In 2015, the actress also admitted their relationship was tested after reports of Pratt cheating surfaced. “I take pride in how great my relationship is with Chris, but having said that, of course, in this crazy world where he’s off doing movies and I’m in L.A. raising our child, of course I’m going to feel vulnerable, like any normal human would,” Faris added.
The couple met while on the set of Take Me Home Tonight in 2007, and wed two years later. Faris and Pratt share one child, a son, Jack, who will turn 5 on August 25.
