An Oceanfront Summer Wedding on Cape Cod

Trish Valarioti and Nick Candito, owner and cofounder of Progressly and a Forbes 30 Under 30 award recipient, have known each another for over a decade. “We were introduced by mutual friends in high school, and stayed friends over the years,” she says. Finally, one Thanksgiving weekend when they were home from college, Nick finally asked Trish out on a date after years of friendly flirtation. “We were long distance for a long time, until I finally decided to move to California," she says. "It was one of the best choices I ever made!”

In 2015, the couple headed home to Massachusetts to spend the holidays with their families. As an early Christmas present, Nick surprised Trish with a night’s stay at the Hotel Boston Commonwealth on New Year’s Eve. “I was totally oblivious to what he was planning, even with the clues our families gave away!” she says. That night, they headed into Boston and got dressed up for an early dinner. After ordering drinks, the waiter brought out the ring and Nick got down on one knee. “We headed upstairs to take photos, and I found our families and friends waiting to celebrate with a New Year’s Eve engagement party!” says the bride.

Trish grew up spending summers on Cape Cod, and Nick has happily joined the family’s weekend beach trips. “There was no question that we wanted to be married on the beach near my parents’ home,” Trish says. “Wychmere Beach Club was the perfect option, with a manicured lawn, sail boats, and a romantic reception hall.” There, the couple worked with Keri Ketterer of Always Yours Events to put a twist on classic Cape Cod style for their August 12, 2017 wedding. Elizabeth LaDuca was also on hand to photograph the relaxed and airy details.

Blooming hydrangeas and worn shingles made Wychmere Beach Club the perfect backdrop for Nick and Trish’s celebration.

The bride and her ‘maids wore matching robes as they got glam for the day—and of course there was confetti!

Trish’s stunning gown was a sleek Reem Acra design with a simple A-line skirt, a molded bodice, and a plunging sheer V-neck. “My consultant picked this dress out for me, and it was the very first one I tried on," she says. "It was nothing like I expected, and I loved the way it made me feel.” She paired the simple gown with a gold bracelet engraved with the couple’s wedding date, as well as strappy Badgley Mischka sandals with dramatic crystals on the heels.

The bridesmaids wore a combination of Jenny Yoo and Amsale dresses in soft blush, which perfectly matched Trish’s rose, anemone and hydrangea bouquet.

Nick, wearing a modern blue tuxedo with black accents, read a letter from Trish before meeting her for the ceremony.

The ceremony took place on the beach club’s lawn, with crisp white folding chairs set up alongside an aisle lined in rose petals. The couple served water to keep everyone hydrated and cool in the summer weather.

Trish and Nick exchanged vows beneath an altar draped in greenery and accented with dusty rose and white blooms. “We wrote our own vows, and didn’t hold back on the emotions,” she says. One of Trish's favorite lines from Nick’s vows was, “This is my proudest moment, and my single greatest achievement.”

Guests tossed rose petals as the newlyweds made their way back up the aisle, creating a memory the couple will never forget.

Waiters passed champagne as the happy couple and their guests made their way back to the beach club for cocktails, which included Trish’s favorite, a grapefruit paloma, and Nick’s pick, a twist on an Old Fashioned.

Inside the reception hall, the wedding party was seated at a long table set for 30. The table was flanked with soft gray chairs and topped with arrangements of blush, cream, and dusty rose blooms.

Nick and Trish cut a lemon and vanilla cake, but the highlight of the evening was the Italian dessert spread (and the late-night pizza!). “Our wedding was one of the best parties I’ve ever been to, filled with heartwarming tears, amazing food, and one heck of a dance floor,” says the bride. “Looking around and seeing everyone we love having so much fun together is something I’ll never forget!"
