An Italian-Meets-Scandinavian Wedding in Tuscany

Over their decade together, Charlotta Bergman and Simon Hahn have spent a lot of time traveling—especially to Italy!—and knew a destination wedding would be in the cards after they got engaged in January of 2016. "We love the food and the people of Italy, and touring Tuscany in search of our wedding venue was amazing," says Charlotta. And when they saw Locanda in Tuscany, a resort in Val d'Orica, they were sold.

"Our goal was to work with the already beautiful setting, and bring in a bit of Scandi-chic design," the bride explains. Charlotta and Simon did most of the planning themselves, turning to the owner of Locanda for local vendor recommendations. Graced with gorgeous late spring weather and surrounded by 80 of their family and friends, Simon and Charlotta tied the knot in late May—take a peek at the photos by Monica Leggio below!

Charlotta wore a custom-made sheath dress in duchess satin, with a slim shape, a high front slit, and a ruffled neckline. "It brought a more sleek, Scandinavian feel to the wedding, while the flowing veil was romantic and Italian, she says. Charlotta's bridesmaids wore colorful one-shoulder dresses by Josephine Thelin with a ruffled skirt that mimicked the bride's gown.

The bride paired her dress with studded Valentino sandals, silver glitter nails, and a colorful bouquet.

The ceremony took place in the Tuscan countryside, where chairs tied with flowing ribbon led to a semi-circle of greenery in the grass. A low alternative to an altar allowed guests to keep their focus on the stunning ceremony view.

Simon waited for Charlotta at the end of the aisle, then the two walked to the altar together. "It's a Swedish tradition, and we opted to do this instead of having a first look," says the bride. "It was really emotional!"

As part of the ceremony, one of Simon's groomsmen performed a song and played guitar.

The wedding party and guests were invited to warm the couple's wedding rings before they exchanged vows.

After exchanging rings and sharing their first kiss as husband and wife, Simon and Charlotta exited beneath a shower of confetti. "We made the confetti envelopes ourselves, with help from one of my bridesmaids," says Charlotta.

Instead of traditional escort cards, tags listing who was seated at each table were tied to wreaths of locally foraged greenery.

Guests were seated at round tables in the resort's stone courtyard, with string lights draped overhead. Each place setting featured a linen charger and a white napkin tied with wildflowers. The traditional Tuscan menu featured a spread of antipasti including local cheeses and hams, a ricotta and spinach tortelli garnished with summer truffle, and slow-cooked lamb with crispy vegetables.

"Our wedding cake was a traditional Tuscan millefoglie topped with cream and fresh strawberries," says Charlotta. After dinner, the couple and their guests kicked off their shoes and danced around the pool. Says the bride, "Our MCs kept everyone entertained, driving into the reception in a Fiat 500 and serving a Swedish favorite, 'hot shots' made of coffee and Galliano liqueur. They were great!"

While it may have taken a lot of time to plan their destination wedding in Tuscany, Simon and Charlotta think it was time well spent. "We had an amazing day, and really enjoyed working on this fun weekend for our guests!"
