Here’s a good reason to stick to your New Year’s resolutions: Irene Pangusión and Miki Roig first met at the gym! “It was love at first sight,” she says. And for their June 3, 2017 wedding, the natives of Spain wanted to find a unique venue close to Barcelona. “We’re both urbanites, but also love nature,” says Irene. Can Valldaura, a former monastery with a historic farmhouse and a gorgeous, organic setting, was just the place. The location inspired their natural, Mediterranean theme, filled with the bright greenery and warm yellow tones that mark the coming of spring. With their daughter, Candela, in tow, Miki and Irene tied the knot in front of 120 guests.

The bride embraced a chic but relaxed look. She finished her soft ponytail with gold wire, and added red lipstick. Oversized gold earrings made a real statement and were a gift from a friend from Granada.

Irene worked closely with designer Santos Costura to customize her wedding gown. “I wanted long sleeves and a simple neckline, and adored the braided details on the bodice,” she says.

The bride's dress was classic, simple, and elegant, just like the frock and eyelet bonnet she chose for her daughter. And of course she wore a pair of tiny white espadrilles!

Irene’s bouquet combined olive branches, ranunculus, and sea holly.

A row of buttons down the back of her dress completed the white-on-white details—and made for some very pretty photos!

Meanwhile Miki arrived at Santa Ana’s Church for the ceremony in a Toni Barceló suit—on a motorcycle!

On their way into the church, guests picked up cones of olive leaves to toss once the couple said “I do.” The aisle was lined in olive branches and lit with pillar candles, an elegant accent to the already-beautiful setting.

After exchanging personalized vows, Miki and Irene headed to Can Valldaura for the reception, taking in the sunset overlooking the mountains.

Cocktail hour kicked off outdoors, where guests enjoyed sunset views as they sipped on sipped cocktails and sparkling wine and tasted passed hors d’oeuvres.

And as an eco-friendly touch, everyone was given a customized cotton napkin and invited to use them throughout cocktails and the rest of the evening (including dinner!).

At cocktail hour, guests also rested in a pyramid frame that doubled as an outdoor lounge space filled with colorful pillows. Inside, local blooms overflowed from gold pots, adding a natural warmth and softness to the space. “Instead of cake, we served shots of Jaëger!” Irene laughs.

Reception tables were arranged beneath a hanging trellis covered in greenery and strands of café lights. This unique display added warmth to the brick-walled building while also creating a whimsical and organic feel inside the space.

Bare wooden tables were topped with ivory runners and colored taper candles (so trendy!). Each plate was topped with a mint green napkin, and wine was served in gold-rimmed glassware. Wicker lanterns and whitewashed chiavari chairs added a summery and light touch.

The couple loved sharing their wedding day with their daughter—but sent her home long before the party ended at 7 the next morning. “It was so much fun!” says the bride.
