In a sweet Instagram post on Wednesday, Amy Schumer revealed the name of her new baby boy, who was born on Monday. She shared an adorable shot of her son and her husband and wrote in the caption, "Gene Attell Fischer and his dad Chris.”
Lots of people think the name pays tribute to one of Schumer's longtime comedian friends and collaborators, Dave Attell. Earlier this year, Attell invited Schumer onstage during his show at Carolines on Broadway in Times Square. He even asked her at the time if she had picked a name for the baby yet.
Wednesday's Instagram shot is the second glimpse we've had of little Gene. Schumer had published a family photo soon after the baby had arrived, captioning it "10:55 pm last night. Our royal baby was born." The text was part of a long-running joke Schumer has going about competing with Markle for attention. The two of them had announced they were pregnant around the same time and ended up giving birth on the same exact day.
"Chris and I are thrilled and almost positive he's the father. I look forward to competing with Markle every step of the way," she had teased in a statement to the Los Angeles Times a few months ago.
Still, while Schumer's comedy was front and center during the pregnancy, she also faced some serious pregnancy complications. She cancelled several dates during a recent tour because of hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition that leads pregnant women to experience intense nausea.
"The baby and I are healthy and everything looks good. But I am in my third trimester and I am still nauseous all the time and vomiting," she posted to her Instagram at the time. "I vomit mostly every time I ride in a car even for five minutes. I have a pretty good attitude about it and some days I feel good for a couple of hours. But mostly it sucks."
Luckily, it seems both Schumer and her baby are healthy, and she's been busy enjoying her mom life with Gene.
