Amal Clooney is always on the top of our list when it comes to iconic brides and to-die-for wedding dresses. The Oscar de la Renta bridal gown she wore to wed George Clooney on September 27th, 2014 in Italy was the stuff wedding dress dreams are made of. But you no longer have to wait until it's time to slumber to see Amal's wedding dress. Fans of the frock will be able to see the gorgeous gown IRL at the new Oscar de la Renta exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.
The Glamour and Romance of Oscar de la Renta, a temporary installation honoring the late designer, features almost 70 iconic looks by the man himself and is opening to the public this Sunday. Curated by former Vogue editor-at-large, André Leon Talley, the exhibit even managed to score Mrs. Clooney's wedding dress for the display. “We have the great Amal Clooney’s wedding dress, which is the last wedding dress that Oscar designed before he died,” Talley explained to WWD.
“It’s on loan from Mrs. Clooney, but we have been very anxious to have that dress for so long,” continued the former editor, who also designed the Oscar de la Renta exhibit when it first debuted last year at San Francisco’s de Young museum. "We wanted it [in San Francisco], but Mrs. Clooney reached me through her assistant to say that she felt it was too early to have her dress in an exhibit after she married [George Clooney]," said Talley.
Besides acquiring the infamous lace gown (a feat Talley described as a "diplomatic summit"), the Houston exhibit also features pieces on loan from other VIPs like Beyoncé (seriously!), Annette de la Renta (the wife of the late designer), and Houston socialite Lynn Wyatt. "It’s about beauty," Talley concluded. "A celebration of this great man’s life and I think it’s quite inspiring and wonderful."
De la Renta -designed pieces from the 1960s to the designer's 2014 death will be on display from October 8, 2017 to January 28, 2018 at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, where you can catch a glimpse of Amal's gorgeous gown. (Now just imagine what it'd be like to actually wear it!)
