When The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Alex Borstein took the stage at the Emmy Awards 2018 to accept her win for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, she removed her bolero jacket and stunned in a silver gown with a plunging neckline, flutter sleeves—and a history.
Not only was the gorgeous ensemble what Borstein wore for her Emmy win (her second in a week), but it was also her wedding gown some 20 years ago, she revealed to Glamour on the red carpet. “This is actually my wedding dress,” she told Glamour's Jessica Radloff. “This was from 20 years ago. The marriage didn’t last, but the dress did.”
“I wanted to give it new life, so now it’s my Emmy dress,” the 47-year-old actress continued.
The gown was from Borstein’s marriage to Gilmore Girls actor Jackson Douglas in 1999. The couple share two children and were married for 15 years before Douglas filed for divorce in 2014; it was finalized in 2017.
The marital history wasn’t the only information Alex Borstein shared about her Emmys look, though. When she removed her wraparound jacket to accept the award, Borstein kicked off her speech by announcing to the crowd: “I went without the bra.”
