Now that the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of same-sex marriage and Pride Month is in full swing, it's safe to say that the topic of gay weddings is more prescient than ever. Airbnb added its voice to the conversation this week with an emotional video that captures the love, fears, and realities of traveling as a same-sex couple.
The video, which is part of the vacation rental company's #HostWithPride campaign, is aimed at showcasing the importance of a world that accepts families of all kinds. "As we celebrate Pride and strive for a world where we all can belong anywhere, we made this film with our friends at Molecule. We look forward to helping create a world where all love is not only accepted, but welcomed, everywhere we go," they wrote alongside the emotional video.
The spot features interviews from several couples who speak about their hopes and anxieties as scenes play from their every day life, including shaving, walking the dog, and helping a child ride a bike.
"Planning a honeymoon as a queer couple, we have to be really careful where we go," one woman said as she discussed her post-wedding plans.
Another couple vocalized their biggest concern in traveling with their son. "We never want to come across a situation where you're with your child and you're going to deny being a family, or pretend like you're a mother and an aunt," another woman said.
Another added, "I would love to really experience the world knowing that you're welcome anywhere you go."
The video is heart-warming, tear-inducing, and a genuine portrait of the facts that same-sex couples have to deal with when traveling, whether its on their honeymoon, or otherwise. But if Airbnb has anything to do with it, those truths will soon become positives. "We look forward to a world where all love is welcome," the video's end slate says. We do, too!
