Call Allison Ross’s cousin a matchmaker! After all, it was at her wedding in 2011 that Alli first met Ian Tenenbaum. The couple dated for four years before, the night before Thanksgiving, Ian popped the question—just in time to celebrate with their families the next day!

The couple wanted a rustic vibe for their August 27, 2016 wedding, and were willing to go far from their Los Angeles home to find it. “The second we saw Cedar Lakes Estate, we knew it was just the place!” says Alli. A five-month business venture in Chicago meant the pair was combining wedding planning with jetting back and forth between L.A. and the Windy City, so they relied heavily on Alli’s mom, as well as wedding planner Tracy Taylor Ward. “We owe so much to them both for bringing our vision to life and taking care of so much of what I would have handled otherwise,” says the bride.

Their waterfront celebration had a romantic, elegant theme that complemented the natural setting, from the sunset ceremony overlooking the lake to a gorgeous reception in the estate’s polished barn. “We wanted whimsical and rustic with a bohemian flair, and that’s exactly what we got,” Alli says. They invited 160 guests to join them for the weekend, making s’mores around the bonfire and taking late-night dips in the lake. Photographed by Whyman Studios, Ian and Alli’s wedding was the main event of a summer camp weekend with the people they love most.

Embracing the bohemian vibe, Alli wore her hair in a sideswept braid topped with a crown of white roses and ivy. Her off-white lace Pronovias gown gave her that princess feeling she’d been looking for. “Finding a salon that made me feel like family made the process so much more enjoyable,” says Alli of Panache Beverly Hills. She added a dramatic veil that caught the breeze perfectly, and skipped heels in favor of bridal flats. “I was so comfortable the entire night,” she says.

The bride’s organic bouquet combined garden roses, ranunculus, stock, and astilbe in blush, cream and peach, tied with an ivory silk ribbon.

Ian’s twin nieces served as the flower girls, wearing tulle dresses with sage ribbon belts and flower crowns that matched the bride.

Alli’s parents escorted her down the aisle to the altar, where a wrought-iron arch of hydrangeas, roses, and dahlias framed the lake. “Ian and I wrote our own vows, which made the ceremony that much more special and intimate,” Alli describes. Her bridesmaids all wore Amsale dresses in sage chiffon, while the groom and groomsmen wore light grey suits.

Inside the barn, swags of fabric and strings of café lights hung from the ceiling. Round tables were draped with lace linens and topped with glass trumpet vases, while long bare tables featured low arrangements in footed bowls. Combinations of hydrangeas, roses, dahlias, delphinium, and astilbe in pastel tones softened the space, while candlelight added a romantic glow.

“The food was unforgettable,” says Alli. “Every meal we had all weekend blew us away.” After guests nibbled on figs with mascarpone and prosciutto and charred octopus with chorizo during cocktail hour, they sat down for a farm fresh and seasonal dinner with veggies straight from Cedar Lakes’ garden. “My favorite part of the night was the late-night snacks,” Alli says. “We had salted chocolate chip cookies, fontina and pancetta grilled cheese, and mini buffalo chicken sliders. It was the perfect junk food for the end of the night.”

While the details are important, the couple emphasizes how much more important the people at the wedding are. “After months of hard work, seeing it all come together and having all of our friends and family there was a feeling we’ll never forget!” says the bride.
