A Romantic Spring Wedding in Napa Valley

When Leah Dang and Herman Chan got engaged in December of 2016 on a beach in Maui, the pair knew exactly where they wanted to host their spring wedding—because they'd already attended a wedding there. "Some friends of ours got married at Long Meadow Ranch in St. Helena, California, and we loved the outdoor location, and the food!" Leah raves. So 15 months after saying "yes!," the couple planned to say "I do," setting the date for March 24, 2018, and inviting 240 guests to join them.

"We really envisioned an evening of timeless elegance, embracing the venue's existing Tuscan aesthetic," the bride says. They also let the beauty of Napa Valley shine, choosing a palette of gray, dusty blue, and white that fit seamlessly in with their surroundings. Leah and Herman say their biggest challenge was finding the perfect vendors, but thankfully their planner, Adrienne Lee from Tickled Events, knew exactly who to call. Says Leah, "The process was hectic, but we knew it would be worth it for the most memorable day of our lives!"

Leah had not one, but three dresses for her spring wedding, all in off-white with lace accents. She wore the all-lace off-the-shoulder gown for the ceremony, a dress with a high neck and long sleeves for dancing, and a slim silhouette with an illusion neckline for late-night festivities. She had a major Cinderella moment in sparkling Manolo Blahnik pumps.

"I knew I wanted an off-the-shoulder dress with long sleeves, but hadn't found the right one yet," says Leah. She found a strapless dress in a lace pattern she loved, purchased the matching veil, then had her seamstress use the lace from the veil to create the neckline and sleeves of her dreams.

"I kept the simple tulle of the veil, and wore that down the aisle," Leah reveals. She also carried a romantic bouquet of white garden roses, white lilac, sweet peas, and smilax.

Leah's bridesmaids all wore light gray dresses from Lulus, each choosing the silhouette they loved most. The flower girls wore matching gray tutus, all handmade by Leah's sister-in-law, with white cardigans and flower crowns.

Herman donned a classic black tux, topped with a white rose boutonniere, for the black-tie celebration.

The ceremony took place beneath a pergola on the property, with white roses and vines accenting the existing greenery. Guests were seated in the round so everyone would have a perfect view.

"Herman and I really cherished the opportunity to share how we feel about one another in front of our closest family and friends," says Leah of the couple's personal vows.

Guests enjoyed his-and-hers cocktails along with an indulgent cheese and charcuterie display and freshly shucked oysters before heading into the tent for dinner.

Long tables were draped in light gray linens and white runners, then decorated with all-white arrangements of white lilac, roses and olive branches in ceramic vases. Each table was named after a city that held meaning to the couple, then marked with a calligraphed sign. To create a communal dining experience, the meal was served family-style and included favorites like beets a la plancha with chimichurri and brick-cooked chicken with salsa verde.

Ruffled white buttercream was layered over chocolate cake with fresh fruit filling.

Leah and Herman opted for two honeymoons, first to Italy and Greece and then to Japan to really spread out the celebration.

"Remember that nothing can be perfect," says Leah. "Don't obsess over the things you can't control. Instead, live in the moment and enjoy it!"
