When people typically think to fill the spot of one of a wedding's most cherished roles, otherwise known as flower girl, the honorary title is usually bestowed upon the youngest in the family. But in this case, the title was presented to the oldest! Bride Emilie Voss asked her 95-year-old grandmother to participate in her wedding ceremony as the role of flower girl — and let's just say, this adorable grandma put the petal to the metal!
For this January bride, traditional wasn't an option. Thanks to the light-hearted gesture of asking her grandmother to play a part in her wedding day, the world was gifted with some of the most adorable wedding photos we've ever seen! "I don't think my Grandma Alice thought we were serious when we asked her to be part of our big day," said Voss on her Facebook page adding, "But she did not disappoint."
Voss, a Toledo news anchor, also used her Facebook page as the source for sharing some of her big day's most touching photos. A photo of the grandmother/granddaughter duo shows Voss kissing her 95-year-old family matriarch on the head. So sweet! But perhaps one of the most candid wedding snapshots comes from a still taken during the ceremony, which shows the 95-year-old flower girl adorably fulfilling her floral duties by showering the wedding aisle with petals. Now that's a memorable moment!
The bride couldn't help but comment on the unique relationship between her and grandma, and how they still manage to speak despite Voss's busy work schedule. "She is my number one fan and I know I get my independence and adventurous spirit from her," the bride told The Huffington Post.
But this heartfelt bride wasn't the only one feeling the love when it came to asking a family member to play the role generally filled by a little one. The bride's now-husband, Nick, took a piece out of his wife's wedding day handbook and asked his grandfather to serve as ring bearer!
Talk about an adorable family affair! See the cute photos below.
