Day 16: Turn Your Cardio Routine On Its Head
A few weeks before the big day — that would be now! — experts recommend swapping your high-intensity interval (HIIT) workouts for low-intensity, steady-state ones (or LISS, for short). Think: A longer workout that you do at a single, less strenuous pace — like a 40 to 45 minute brisk walk, or a leisurely bike ride.
Why? "Even though HIIT workouts burn more calories in less time, LISS cardio burns more fat, which can promote leanness during those last few weeks," says Pete McCall, an exercise physiologist and personal trainer in San Diego.
"LISS is also easier on your body. The last thing you want right before your wedding is to be over-trained, which can happen if you do HIIT workouts for long periods of time." There's also something to be said for doing a more relaxing form of exercise right about now, when all the last-minute details you're dealing with are creating boatloads of stress.
So grab the dog and go for a nice, long walk. You'll come back refreshed and glowing.
