After saying “I do” at a Texas courthouse in April of 2023, Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens celebrated their marriage once again with a second wedding. On Saturday, May 6, 2023, the Olympic gymnast and the NFL star tied the knot on the beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Page Six reports. Unlike their civil ceremony, which was an intimate affair, the bride and groom invited 144 guests to watch them get married a second time, according to Vogue.
The professional gymnast initially told her fans on Instagram that she was planning on wearing four different wedding dresses for the occasion. For the ceremony, Biles stunned in a romantic ball gown featuring floral appliqués, beaded accents, a corset bodice, and a leg slit, which bridal designer Galia Lahav created. She completed her ensemble with diamond jewels and wore her hair in waves affixed with a cathedral-length veil. Standing by her side, Owens sported a beige suit.
During her final dress fitting, the Olympic gold medalist opened up to Vogue about the dress and why she was drawn to it. “When I started dress shopping, I was like, ‘If I get married, it has to be a Galia Lahav,’” she revealed. “And so, once I looked at the dresses, I was like, ‘This is definitely my style.’ I like the sheer, I like how it fits, and then, [I like] the little pearl details—I love pearls. If there’s something else I wanted at my wedding, it’s flowers and pearls.” According to the outlet, she came across the getup in her DMs.
Biles admitted that she was hesitant to wear the ball gown silhouette, but Galia Lahav and her team explained that pairing the billowing skirt with a corset top and leg slit would make her appear taller, the outlet reports. “I was nervous about having a ball gown because I’m so petite, but it works perfect,” she said. “The leg slit was very crucial. It was to add—in my head—more length to my body. I think this is exactly how brides are supposed to feel: luxurious, beautiful, kind of on top of the world.” During the final dress fitting, the bride contemplated raising the slit, which she voiced to her sister over FaceTime. “The higher [the slit], the sexier and the taller I look,” she joked.
Based on photos that Page Six acquired, the couple traded vows in front of a floral act composed of white baby’s breath and hydrangea with greenery. After her courthouse ceremony, Biles revealed that she chose a color scheme of white, champagne, and gold for her destination wedding and that the flowers were the most expensive part of the festivities. “We went so over budget that we decided there is not longer a budget,” the bride joked on Instagram. The couple also decided to write their own vows. “Idk how I’m supposed to get through it,” she wrote on her Instagram Story ahead of the nuptials. “I was so teary [and] choked up at the courthouse ceremony, [and] it was just basic vows.” They also selected eight bridesmaids and seven groomsmen to do the honors.

The athletic pair first announced that they traded vows at a courthouse in Houston, Texas, with an Instagram post on April 22, 2023. “I do 🤍 officially owens 🤍,” Biles captioned her post alongside wedding photos captured by RaeTay Photography. The gymnast also explained why the two of them decided to host two separate ceremonies. “We had to get married ‘legally’ here in the U.S. since our wedding will be a destination wedding,” Biles told her fans on Instagram. For their first nuptials, the bride kept it casual in a tiered gown that cost $120 and paired it with equally affordable shoes, which amounted to $35.
