Simone Biles, the G.O.A.T. of gymnastics, has another title to add to her extensive list of honorifics: fiancée! The seven-time Olympic medalist got engaged to her boyfriend Jonathan Owens on Valentine's Day. The NFL player popped the question with the sweetest gazebo proposal and a massive engagement ring that immediately caught our eye.
The gymnast shared images from the romantic moment to her Instagram, which showed the Houston Texans safety down on one knee and as she smiled hugely.
"THE EASIEST YES," she captioned the post. "I can’t wait to spend forever & ever with you, you’re everything I dreamed of and more! let’s get married FIANCÉ 💍🥺🥲🤎"
In the gallery, Biles shared a photo of her new sparkler: a stunning oval-shaped solitaire. Chief Merchandising Officer at Blue Nile Katie Zimmerman tells us that the gymnast's new bling is right on trend.
"This is a twist on a classic, popular style," she says. "Oval engagement rings and other elongated fancy shapes have been trending since last year, and show no signs of slowing down." She estimates the ring set Owens back a whopping $300,000.
The sparkler was designed by jeweler Zo Frost, who also posted a close-up of the blinding ring on his Instagram. “Jonathan has been a client and friend for a few years and I had the pleasure of helping him to create this very special ring,” Frost told Page Six. “He and I started the process together a few months ago to select the perfect diamond for Simone that was handpicked by Jonathan.”
The perfect diamond ended up being a 3-carat rock with F color and VVS2 clarity. And as if the stunning stone wasn't special enough in itself, the NFL player also opted to add a bit of additional sparkle.
“He wanted to add a special touch to the ring by adding a halo around the oval diamond,” the jeweler told the publication.
Kathryn Money, SVP of Merchandising and Retail at Brilliant Earth, adds that the diamond is "set on micropave diamond accented white gold or platinum band." She notes that the ring's shape is "a very classic, timeless style that we love."
As Zimmerman pointed out, the oval shape has made a major comeback and is predicted to grow in popularity even more in the coming year. Other celebrities like Blake Lively and Hailey Bieber rep the timeless yet trendy style, and Kourtney Kardashian received a very similar oval-shaped ring with a hidden halo and pave band back in October from her fiancé Travis Barker.
Whether Biles is competing on or off the mat, the athlete's love story has completely won over our hearts. Congratulations to the happy couple!
