Sara Bareilles Is Engaged to Joe Tippett

Sara Bareilles and boyfriend Joe Tippett ended 2022 with a bang. Instead of the typical New Year’s Eve party featuring Champagne and noise makers, the “Love Song” singer and The Morning Show actor celebrated the last day of 2022 by toasting to their engagement. On December 31, 2022, the pop sensation announced on Instagram that her new fiancé had popped the question by posting a sweet selfie of the duo gazing into each other’s eyes. “Yes to marrying this man,” she writes. “It’s an easy, earned, relaxed YES.” 

In her post, Bareilles also explains how dating and falling in love with the Mare of Easttown actor has inspired her own growth and self development. “@joetipps you are exactly who I want,” she gushes. “The more I know you the more I know I love you…and you have introduced me to parts of myself I was afraid to love. And now I love ME more because of you. So really this is all about me. Just kidding. What a gift you are. Let the games begin. Onward into absolutely everything with you. ❤️”

Many of the couple’s friends sent congratulatory messages to the newly engaged duo in the comments section of the singer-songwriter’s post. “Congrats!!! ❤️,” Mandy Moore writes. Jennifer Nettles also expressed her support with the note, “Congratulations gorgeous Loves!!!! Onward indeed in all things!!!” Amanda Kloots shared her excitement for the couple. “Oh!!!!! Congratulations 🍾🎈🎉,” she comments.

According to Entertainment Tonight, the pair first met in 2015 after trying out for the musical adaptation of the 2007 movie Waitress at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Bareilles wrote the musical composition for the piece, while Tippett ended up scoring the role of Earl, the husband of protagonist Jenna Hunterson, Today repots. Although Tippett didn’t end up playing the role in the Broadway run in 2016, he got an even more rewarding job that year—he started dating Bareilles. 

Throughout the years as a couple, the pair made several public appearances, such as walking the red carpet at the 2018 Tony Awards together, according to Today. In June of 2022, the “Brave” singer opened up to host Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show about her relationship. She told a story about how Tippett calmed her nerves when she starred on her first television role, Girls5eva. “I was struggling with insecurities about being able to meet the challenge of it, and I felt really out of my depth,” she recalled. “And he’s like, ‘If Tina Fey believes that you can do this, why don’t you just trust her? If you can’t find it in yourself, just trust that one of your heroes is not going to put you in a position to fail.’ And that was really good advice.”

For Tippett’s 40th birthday on March 1, 2022, the pop star dedicated an Instagram post to her boyfriend with a heartfelt message. “Happy birthday to the one who makes me laugh the hardest, feel the safest, learn the most, and dream in technicolor,” she said in her post. “Even though the pic is in black and white. I love you @joetipps. Forever and ever amen. you and me.”
