Rock Climber Alex Honnold's Stunning Second Wedding in the Desert

Pro rock climber Alex Honnold and Sanni McCandless just said “I do”—again!

After canceling their original wedding plans due to the pandemic, the couple wed last September in an intimate, family-only ceremony on Lake Tahoe. However, the pair finally got the chance to throw the wedding of their dreams when they recently renewed their vows during a grand desert extravaganza.

McCandless shared a series of stunning photos from the event on Instagram yesterday (November 11). “Last year we canceled our big wedding and got married in a very sweet, intimate ceremony with 20 family members. This year we finally got to bring together all our friends & family and have a full blown celebration! My heart was so full,” she captioned the post.

“It felt so right to renew our vows with our people there," she continued. "Not to mention the epic sunset, costume changes, and dance party until 2am.”

Of course, some adjustments were made to their original plans. McCandless is currently pregnant with the couple’s first child, a baby girl who’s expected to arrive in early 2022, so her original wedding dress needed a few alterations. “My dress was magically altered to fit the bump 😍 and somehow my body was up for the all night dancing,” wrote the life and transition coach. The bride posed for photos with Honnold in the same light blue gown she wore to their first wedding, before changing into a short, sequin-embellished dress for the evening festivities.

For their second take on wedding photos, the couple chose a very on-brand location. Honnold and McCandless posed in front of a scenic mountain background, nodding to the Free Solo star’s illustrious rock climbing career.

The bride also shared photos from the reception, where the couple danced with guests at their outdoor venue, decorated with hanging string lights and disco balls.

Honnold originally announced that the couple had wed last September. "We got married," he wrote on Instagram at the time. "Small family ceremony on the lake...totally lovely all the way around." The groom also called his bride—who stunned an ethereal V-neck blue gown—"radiant as always."

For their original ceremony, the couple exchanged vows under a geometric arch accented with white drapes and colorful flowers. The pair even asked fellow rock climber Tommy Caldwell to officiate the nuptials.

Per the bride, the intimate wedding was pulled together in just three weeks after the couple decided to postpone their original plans. "Three weeks is not much time to plan a wedding, but in classic style our family and friends rose to the occasion and helped everything go perfectly," McCandless wrote on Instagram. "Thank you @tommycaldwell for being the best officiant ever and to @photocait for capturing the evening and being absolutely so wonderful. And last but not least, to @alexhonnold for making the happiest and luckiest girl in the world."

After the outdoor "I dos" (and plenty of gorgeous golden hour photos!), the newlyweds and their guests celebrated with a reception that included dancing under disco balls—with face masks, of course. And rather than serving a traditional wedding cake, Honnold and McCandless opted for donuts instead!

Honnold popped the question during an outdoor adventure back in 2019. At the time of the proposal, McCandless shared, "He said, do you wanna keep doing what we’re doing? And I said, yes." For these love birds, married life will be their best adventure yet.
