Rock Climber Alex Honnold Is Engaged To Sanni McCandless

Rock climber Alex Honnold, known for his free solo ascents—aka climbing without ropes, harnesses or any other equipment—had a pretty memorable 2019. He started the year with an Oscar win for Free Solo, a documentary focused on his historic climb of El Capitan in Yosemite, but he ended the year on an even higher note: He is engaged!

Honnold proposed to his girlfriend Sanni McCandless on Christmas, announcing the news on Instagram the very same day. "@sannimccandless agreed to marry me. Marry Christmas," he captioned the post. Based on the photo, we assume Honnold popped the question outside and presented his now-fiancée with a delicate engagement ring.

While we don't know exactly how the proposal went down, McCandless's Instagram post gives us a pretty good idea. "He said, do you wanna keep doing what we’re doing? And I said, yes," wrote the life coach. Sounds like a simple, romantic proposal to us!

Both Honnold and McCandless are no strangers to adventure, but, we have a feeling that this next chapter together is going to be better than any rock climb they've done before. Congratulations to the couple!
