Throughout their 17 years together, Robin Roberts and Amber Laign have supported one another in sickness and in health. The Plant Juice Oils co-founder stood by the Good Morning America anchor’s side as she battled with breast cancer in 2007, and this past year, the roles were reversed after Laign was diagnosed with the same form of cancer at the end of 2021. After an arduous year, things are looking up in 2023 for the couple. On January 2, 2023, the talk show anchor announced that she and her long-time partner are finally going to tie the knot some time this year.

In a conversation with motivational speaker and author Gabby Bernstein about setting intentions, Roberts revealed the latest on her impending wedding. “I’m hesitating because I haven’t said it out loud yet,” she tells Bernstein. “I’m saying ‘yes’ to marriage. We’re getting married this year. It was something we had talked about, but we had put it off. She became ill, but it is saying ‘yes’ to that and that next chapter.”

On Instagram, Roberts shared a clip from the segment with Bernstein on Instagram along with the caption, “Saying YES to marriage in 2023 💍Always a joy to chat with @gabbybernstein…she joined us LIVE with a manifestation challenge to realize your dreams in the new year. #marriage #manifestation #loveislove.” Many of the broadcaster’s friends embraced the news with a lot of love. Tennis player Billie Jean King commented, “So happy for you and Amber! Sending all our love your way,” and Loni Love shared the note, “Come through!!!!! Congratulations.. I'll be the flower girl!!!!"

Roberts first announced Laign’s health struggles at the beginning of 2022, according to E! News. "At the end of last year, Amber was diagnosed with breast cancer," Roberts shared. "She had surgery last month, and this morning will begin chemotherapy. She and I have been together almost 17 years and have helped each other through our challenges, like my journey with cancer. It’s my turn now to be there for her like she was for me."

In April of 2022, Roberts opened up to Entertainment Tonight about Laign’s journey with cancer. “She's had some complications with the chemotherapy," Roberts noted. "They’re working it out. We’re gonna figure it out. The prognosis is still very good. I’m just thankful that her spirits have been lifted. Recently, it was a little tough there when—because she just wanted to get through it and to have this wrench thrown in our way—but I was able to tell her, as most people [who] have gone through cancer, this happens. There are peaks and valleys, and we went through a valley, but it's more of a peak right now, and I'm just very grateful for all the love and support that she’s receiving." Roberts also battled with breast cancer and myelodysplastic syndrome, which Laign helped her through.

In July of 2022, Roberts celebrated the end of Laign’s radiation therapy with a tribute on social media. “Sweet Amber, completing radiation, a very important phase of her treatment!” she wrote alongside a video of Laign ringing the hospital’s bell. “We both thank you for all your well wishes and prayers. Proud of her and all fellow Thrivers for your grit and grace during a challenging time. This is indeed my #mondaymotivation."
