Wedding bells are ringing yet again in Monaco for another grandchild of Princess Grace! Louis Ducruet, son of Princess Stéphanie, wed his college sweetheart, Marie Chevallier, during two ceremonies over the weekend.
The pair first said "I do" during a civil ceremony held in Monaco's Prince's Palace on Friday where the bride wore a stunning silk jumpsuit—a royal wedding first! Designed by Barcelona-based bridal designer Rosa Clará, the crepe culotte jumpsuit featured embroidered lace at the waist as well as a V-neck and open back. "It's been a real pleasure to work with her throughout the dressmaking process and, for us, it's a great honour and a huge responsibility," said Clará of her designs for Chevallier. "Being part of a moment as special and unique as a bride's wedding day is an enormous source of pride for our company."
In addition to designing Chevallier's civil ceremony look, Clará also created another unique bridal gown for her wedding reception the following day. For this celebration, the bride-to-be chose a white lace dress with a bold short hemline and embroidered lace overskirt. Clará also shared that both designs "truly express [Chevallier's] personality."
For the church ceremony, Chevallier wore a wedding dress designed by Atelier Boisanger and Pauline Ducruet, the groom's sister. The dress, which features zagar and chantilly lace, required 300 hours of embroidery. The couple chose to hold their religious ceremony at the Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate, the same site as Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier II historic 1956 nuptials. “I was really attached to my grandfather,” Ducruet recently shared per People in regards to the venue. “And I wanted him to be here with me. At some point he will be with me during the wedding ceremony at the cathedral. That’s why we chose it, and Marie supported me in this decision, even though the place is big and there’s a protocol, but that’s the only way for my grandfather to be with us."
The pair first met in Cannes in 2011 before discovering they were classmates at a nearby college. They've been inseparable ever since and have both described their romance as "love at first sight." Ducruet and Chevallier announced their engagement in February 2018 while on holiday in Vietnam. This is also the second marriage the royal family of Monaco has celebrated this summer. Ducruet's cousin Charlotte Casiraghi married her longtime love Dimitri Rassam during both a civil and religious ceremony in June.
