On Friday, July 17, 2020, Princess Beatrice married her fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a private family-only ceremony, one that was unlike the large royal weddings we’re so used to seeing. But while the wedding may not have been quite as lavish as you would think, Princess Beatrice’s engagement ring certainly delivered all of the glitz and glamour one would expect from a member of the royal family.

After nearly a year of dating, Mozzi proposed to the princess in September 2019 during a romantic trip to Italy. He worked with celebrated British jeweler Shaun Lane to create Princess Beatrice’s engagement ring, which features a round center diamond—the most popular cut out there—at roughly 3.5 carats. The stone sits in a platinum setting and is flanked by two smaller round diamonds. It’s also accompanied by a pair of tapered baguettes, which gives the ring an Art Deco-inspired look, and small pavé diamonds line the band halfway around.

What makes it a classic Shaun Lane piece, as the designer explained to Town & Country, are the claws on the central stone, which are filed into points. In a statement, Lane said he was “honored” that Mozzi had chosen him to design the ring, adding, “The bespoke experience was a beautiful journey; from imagining the design with Edoardo to the crafting of the finished rings.”

The ring is filled with personal sentiment as well, although Lane declined to elaborate on what certain aspects of the ring meant to the couple. He said, “Being able to incorporate both Edoardo and Princess Beatrice’s characters into the design has resulted in a unique ring that represents their love and lives entwining.” The designer hasn’t confirmed the cost of the ring either, but jewelry experts told Insider that they estimated the value to be between $74,000 and $100,000, while other jewelers told Marie Claire they estimated it at $130,000.

Beatrice’s wedding band is just as special as her engagement ring, too. Also designed by Lane, it’s made of platinum and diamond for an Art Deco take on a modern design that perfectly complements the engagement ring. It’s also a break from tradition: typically, royal wedding bands are made from Welsh gold.
