From gift exchanges to elaborate light displays, the holiday season is generally considered to be the most wonderful time of the year. One of our favorite traditions? Seeing the annual royal family Christmas card. On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, Prince William and Kate Middleton released their highly-anticipated family photo to celebrate the festive season, and it gives fans a new look at their family life.

The precious portrait shows the couple and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, holding hands and smiling while taking a stroll. Award-winning royal family photographer Matt Porteous captured the sweet moment, which took place on a family vacation in Norfolk, England, over the summer. The photo was a departure from those used in season's past: The Prince and Princess of Wales kept it casual in jeans and button-down shirts. George and Louis donned collared shirts, shorts, and sneakers, while Charlotte sported a jumpsuit and sneakers. “Sharing a new picture of the family for this year’s Christmas card! 🎄,” they wrote on Instagram.

In 2021, the prince and princess selected a never-before-seen photo for their annual holiday card. The image showcased the duo and their kids during a private family trip to Jordan, according to Today. The family of five sat on stools and a furry rug with a backdrop of a rock formation. Kate wore an olive green dress that matched Will’s shirt. George was clad in a camouflage shirt while his younger siblings coordinated in blue ensembles. “Delighted to share a new image of the family, which features on this year’s Christmas card 🎄,” they wrote on Instagram at the time. Jordan holds a special place in their hearts since Kate lived there for two years as a child, People reports.

For their 2020 holiday card, the couple and their kids perched on haystacks at their country home, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk. Like this year's card, Kate and Will also dressed down in jeans for the photo. “The Duke and Duchess are delighted to share a new image of their family, which features on their Christmas card this year🎄,” their Instagram post said.

The prince and princess of Wales have been sharing family Christmas cards since 2015. Their first photo pictured the couple with George and Charlotte before Louis was born, ABC reports.

King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla have also been getting in the holiday spirit. The couple released their 2022 Christmas card on Sunday, December 11, 2022, according to Today. The photo, taken by royal and celebrity photographer Samir Hussein at the Braemar Games in Scotland in September of 2022, shows Charles and Camilla looking at one another and flashing their pearly whites. Camilla is seen wearing a green jacket and matching green hate while Charles is suited up in beige with a plaid tie. “Wishing you a very happy Christmas and New Year,” the card reads.
