Your wedding day will likely be one of the happiest days of your lives. Waltzing down the aisle in a breathtaking gown, vowing to love your partner for eternity, and celebrating with your favorite people on the dance floor are all blissful moments you’ll never forget. Since your wedding is such a special day, you probably want only your closest friends and family members to stand by your side. If the thought of seeing one of your past partners in the mix is enough to make your heart race, you’re not alone. Even though an ex might not be at the top of your guest list, Prince William just proved that former couples can still be friends.
On Saturday, December 17, 2022, the prince of Wales attended his former girlfriend Rose Farquhar’s and George Gemmell’s wedding solo, according to People. Will witnessed the vow swap at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Tetbury in Gloucestershire to support an old friend, so there was no drama between the former couple. A source tells the outlet that the wedding was a beautiful occasion. “It was a magical winter wedding in the snow,” the insider says. “The bride and groom left in a tunnel of guests with sparklers in the dark before leaving in the back of a vintage Land Rover. The Cotswolds are so beautiful in the snow!”
Farquhar is considered to be the prince’s first serious girlfriend, Daily Mail reports. The duo started dating in 2000 after meeting at a Beaufort Polo Club once Will completed Eton College, Page Six notes. In her 2011 book, The Making of a Royal Romance, royal correspondent and journalist Katie Nicholl describes the relationship as “an innocent, tender romance.” After the former couple split, Farquhar moved to New York to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute and later appeared on The Voice UK in 2016. Will and his former girlfriend kept it civil even after the breakup, and Farquhar even attended Will and Kate’s 2011 wedding.
The bride wasn’t Will's only ex in the room on Saturday. Another one of Prince William’s past loves, Olivia Hunt, also attended the event. According to PopSugar, Hunt was Will’s last official girlfriend before he fell for Kate at a charity fashion show. Although they ended things in college, the two stayed friends, the publication says.
One of Kate’s exes, Rupert Finch, also made the guest list. Harper’s Bazaar reports that the past relationship formed after they crossed paths in 2001 at St. Andrew’s University. After less than a year of dating, the couple went their separate ways. Finch tied the knot with Lady Natasha Rufus Isaacs in 2013, and Will and Kate celebrated the couple on their big day, according to British magazine Tatler.
