Patrick Mahomes and fiancé Brittany Matthews are having quite the year! After getting engaged in September of 2020, the couple has already won a Super Bowl (well, Patrick did), welcomed a baby girl, and now has set a wedding date for 2022! But their relationship dates back to 2013—from their first prom together to becoming parents, here is a complete timeline of Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews' relationship.

  • Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews met as high schoolers in Texas and attended prom as a couple in 2013.
  • After college, Mahomes was drafted to the NFL by the Kansas City Chiefs, while Matthews signed to play soccer with a professional team in Iceland.
  • On September 2, 2020, Mahomes proposed to Matthews and the Super Bowl ring ceremony in Kansas City.
  • They welcomed their first daughter together, Sterling Skye Mahomes, on February 20, 2020, and are currently planning a 2022 wedding.

2013: Prom


The highschool sweethearts met at Whitehouse High School in Texas and started dating when Mahomes was in 10th grade and Matthews in 11th, according to Yahoo Sports. In 2013, Mahomes escorted Matthews to the prom and shared this adorable photo collage to his Instagram.

“Best prom date a guy could ask for!!” He wrote. Matthews graduated from Whitehouse in 2013 with Mahomes following in 2014.

2014: Off To College

After graduating high school, Matthews went on to play soccer at the University of Texas at Tyler. The following year, Mahomes went off to Texas Tech University, 440 miles away from Matthews’ school, but they made it through the long distance.

2017: Mahomes Signs With the Chiefs

In 2017, during the first round of the NFL draft, Mahomes was selected by the Chiefs. At the same time, Matthews was signing with the professional soccer team UMF Afturelding/Fram in Iceland, according to Business Insider. 

2018-2019: They Both Live In Kansas City

After less than a year—and a league championship—Matthews moved to Kansas City, where she became a certified fitness trainer. She later would go on to launch Brittany Lynne Fitness, which offers access to different fitness programs designed by Matthews.

During his rookie year in the NFL, Mahomes was named the league’s MVP with 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns, according to The Washington Post

February 2020: The Kansas City Chiefs Win the Super Bowl (And We Win the Cutest Pictures of the Couple)

In Feb. 2020, the Kansas City Chiefs clinched the NFL championship at Super Bowl LIV. Mahomes held Matthews while the two celebrated his big win. More pictures like that on Sunday, please!

September 2, 2020: Mahomes Pops the Question (Hint: There Were Two Rings)

At the Kansas City Chiefs’s Super Bowl Ring Ceremony, Mahomes wasn’t the only one to leave with a ring. Shortly after the ceremony, he got down on one and gave Matthews her own ring in front of a beautiful flower wall and “Will You Marry Me” in light-up letters. Mahomes shared the proposal on Instagram with the hashtag #RingSzn.

Mahomes told 610 Radio that proposing made him more nervous than playing in the Super Bowl! "Probably proposing, I would say," Mahomes told the Kansas City, Missouri radio show when asked which made him more nervous. "You don't think it's going to be nerve-wracking, especially when you've been with someone for so long, but before you get on that knee, your heart's racing, I promise you that."

September 29, 2020: Pregnancy Announcement

At the end of September 2020, the couple announced they were expecting their first child by with a post on Instagram.

“Mom & Dad, taking a small detour to the wedding,” Matthews wrote alongside a picture of the couple holding up a black and white sonogram.

Mahomes posted a close-up of the sonogram with a simple heart emoji.

October 2020: Gender Reveal

The couple hosted a Zoom party (how 2020 of them!) to reveal the baby's sex. Their friends and family looked on as they wore all white and awaited their dogs with their paws painted pink to find out they are expecting a girl. 

November 2020: Game Day with the Baby On Board

December 2020: Baby Shower

Matthews was radiant in a pink gown at her pink-themed baby shower. The trainer posed in front of a huge, pink balloon display and hanging flowers.

January 2021: She’s Proud of Her Man

Leading up to Mahomes’s second consecutive Super Bowl, Matthews posted a picture of the two of them both cradling her baby bump.

“Just so dang proud of you,” she wrote.

February 20, 2021: Baby Sterling Is Born

On Sunday, February 21, 2021, Matthews took to Instagram to share the exciting news of the arrival of their newest family member. "Sterling Skye Mahomes," she wrote alongside a sweet photo of Sterling's little hand holding Mahome's finger. Matthews also donned a necklace with her new daughter's name written in cursive. She added that the baby was born on Feb. 20 and was 6 lbs, 11 oz. Mahomes shared the same picture to his Instagram as well.

March 3, 2021: Choosing a Wedding Date and Venue

Now that the dust of the Super Bowl and the arrival of their new baby girl has settled, the two are making plans for the future. On March 3, Matthews announced Instagram that she and her fiancé had selected a venue and date for their upcoming wedding. And it'll all be happening in 2022!

"It’s wedding planning time," she wrote. "We have a date & place wahoooooo #2022" Of course, she didn't reveal specific details, but if it's anything like her epic baby shower, it's going to be one amazing wedding.

March 20, 2021: The First Photo of Sterling

On March 20, the new parents both posted the first photo of Sterling to Instagram, in honor of her one month birthday. The photo shows Mahomes cradling Sterling and smiling down at her. And we can already tell she's going to be fashionable. Sterling dons the cutest pink headband with a bow on it.

Matthews also posted for the momentous occasion writing, "Ster is 1 Month" alongside the same photo. We cannot wait for more adorable pictures to come!

March 12, 2022: A Romantic Wedding in Hawaii

The couple made their relationship official in Maui, Hawaii by saying “I do” underneath an eye-catching floral arch overlooking the ocean and surrounded by their friends and family. While the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback wore a gray suit and sparkly black shoes, his bride served looks in a statement-making Versace gown featuring cutouts, sparkly details, and an extravagant train. Their 1-year-old daughter, Sterling Skye, also attended the wedding. "Mr. & Mrs. Mahomes 🤍," the newlyweds shared on Instagram following the scenic ceremony.

November 28, 2022: The Birth of Their Second Child, Patrick "Bronze" Mahomes II

In a joint Instagram post, Mahomes and Matthews announced the birth of their second child, a boy names Patrick "Bronze" Mahomes III. "Patrick 'Bronze' Lavon Mahomes III 🤴🏽11/28/22 7lbs 8oz 🤍," the announcement, which was seen alongside a photo of the newborn's feet, reads.

January 10, 2023: Mahomes Joins Matthews in Business

Former soccer star Brittany Matthews is one of the founders of the women's soccer team the Kansas City Current. Now, her husband is joining her as a co-owner. Mahomes announced the news on his Instagram with a cute photo of the couple holding up a KC Current sash. "I am thankful for the chance to join @brittanylynne as part of the Kansas City Current’s ownership team," he wrote in his post. "She and the Longs have done an incredible job building a world-class organization and I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history. @kccurrent"

In the team's statement, Matthews also expressed her excitement to have her husband join the ownership team. "We are so thrilled to make this a family affair and have Patrick join as an owner,” she said. “He has been a huge supporter behind-the-scenes. His passion for the Current is undeniable and I am glad that he will be with us as we continue on our journey to become the best in the NWSL."
