Paris Hilton is officially an engaged woman (again!)! This time it was Hilton's boyfriend of one year, entrepreneur Carter Reum, who proposed to the socialite on Feb. 13 (just days before her 40th birthday!)—and he reportedly spent $1 million on a custom engagement ring for his new fiancée.
"A peaceful pre-dinner walk on the beach turned into much more when Carter dropped to one knee. It was the kind of proposal I had always dreamed of, followed by a special celebration with family and close friends," Hilton wrote on her website of the moment. Reum presented Hilton with a very on-trend emerald-cut engagement ring designed by Jean Dousset, the great-great-grandson of legendary jeweler Cartier.
But this isn't the first time Hilton has had an engagement ring on her finger. In 2018, The Simple Life star said "yes" to actor Chris Zylka after he popped the question with a 20-carat pear-shaped ring. While Hilton and Zylka never made it to the altar (she ended the engagement later that year), her $2 million rock from Zylka was one for the history books. Before that, she was engaged twice before to model Jason Shaw and shipping heir Paris Latsis; and her diamonds were just as envious.
So how does Hilton's new emerald-cut diamond ring from fiancé Reum compare to her engagement rings of the past? Read on for details on all four of Hilton's engagement rings—and proposals!
Engagement Ring From Jason Shaw (2002)
Hilton was first engaged to model Jason Shaw just before she turned 21 years old in 2002. While not much is known about their brief engagement, Shaw appeared to have proposed with a large pear-shaped diamond set on a gold band.
Eight years her senior, Hilton and Shaw's engagement only lasted a few months and the couple called it quits in 2003. They would, however, remain friendly and even sparked romance rumors again in 2010.
Engagement Ring From Paris Latsis (2005)
In May 2005, Hilton got engaged for the second time—this time to Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis. The proposal came just eight months into their relationship and Latsis reportedly presented Hilton 15 different engagement rings (by acclaimed jewelers like Tiffany and Harry Winston) to choose from, per E! Online.
Undoubtedly her biggest engagement ring to date, Hilton chose a reported 24-carat ring that supposedly cost Latsis $5 million.
Yet, by September of 2005 Hilton had called off her engagement to Latsis and released the following statement: "I'm sad to announce that I've called off my engagement. Over the last couple months, I've realized that this is the right decision for me. We remain best of friends, and I'll always love him. I hope people will respect my privacy during this emotional time."
Engagement Ring from Chris Zylka (2018)
Hilton made headlines again when she announced her engagement to actor Chris Zylka in 2018. He proposed to the socialite on a mountaintop in Aspen and gifted her a jaw-dropping pear-shaped engagement ring. The 20-carat stunner (which reportedly cost Zylka $2 million) featured a pear-cut center stone surrounded by a halo of diamonds and set on a double diamond pavé band.
Hilton, however, only wore the engagement ring for 10 months, as she split from the actor in November 2018. "The relationship moved very fast, and she realized it wasn’t right for her,” a source told People after news of the ended engagement broke.
Engagement Ring From Carter Reum (2021)
While vacationing on a private island to celebrate her 40th birthday, Hilton became engaged for a fourth time to businessman Carter Reum. Reum chose an intimate walk on the beach as the perfect moment to propose to the DJ. And although her newest engagement ring bears a slight resemblance to a ring of her past, this new rock is unique in many ways.
Reum tapped famed jeweler Jean Dousset, the great-great-grandson of Louis-Francois Cartier, to design a custom engagement ring for his fiancée. Fittingly named "Paris," the engagement ring features a 10 to 20-carat emerald-cut center stone framed by two shield-cut diamonds, all fit in a tension setting. "Around the diamond, on the prongs, and at the base of the ring’s head are small pavé diamonds giving this ring extra bling while maintaining a classy look," offers jeweler Ajay Anand, CEO of Rare Carat.
"Paris’ ring features some of this year’s hottest engagement ring trends: elongated cuts and three-stone styles," adds Kathryn Money, senior vice president at Brilliant Earth. And both she and Anand agree on the pricetag: Hilton's engagement ring from Reum costs well over $1 million, which is shockingly less than her former rings.
Despite Hilton's three previous engagements, she has yet to walk down the aisle but we're hoping the fourth time's the charm. And if Reum's custom creation and the sweet meaning behind Hilton's new engagement ring is any indication, we think we will finally see Hilton as a bride!
