Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews Shared Pregnancy News One Month After Engagement

Less than a month after popping the question, Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes has more exciting news coming from Kansas City: He and fiancée Brittany Matthews are expecting their first child together!

"Mom & Dad, taking a small detour to the wedding," wrote Matthews on Instagram alongside a photo of the pair holding an ultrasound. The Kansas City Chief quarterback also announced the news with a similar picture and a single red heart.

The baby announcement comes nearly a month after Mahomes proposed to his longtime girlfriend at the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl ring ceremony on September 1. After receiving his own bling, Mahomes proposed to Matthews with a rock that rivals even that of a Super Bowl ring.

"On a day that was meant to celebrate you, you turned it into celebrating us," wrote Matthews on Instagram. "It’s always us, it’s always you and me. The words you looked into my eyes and said to me at this moment, will NEVER leave my mind! You made this day perfect, you took my entire breath away and I could not have imagined anything better. I love you, forever and always! Cheers to spending our lifetime together and an inseparable bond."

The moment occurred in a stadium suite that had been romantically decked out by Mahomes. Complete with a flower wall, rose petals, candles and a marquee that read "Will you marry me," the football player spared no expense to make the proposal perfect—especially since Matthews celebrated her 25th birthday just one day earlier!

While dozens of Super Bowl rings were passed out on Sept. 1, the best bauble of the night was Matthews'. Set on a diamond-adorned double band, the estimated 8-10 carat emerald-cut center stone is expected to be worth between $350,000-$800,000, according to Kathryn Money, Brilliant Earth's SVP of Merchandising & Retail Expansion.

"Engagement rings with emerald-cut diamonds are growing more than four times faster than other diamond shapes in the last six months," adds Money. With her new accessory, Matthews joins the ranks of elite celebrities who wear emerald-cut diamonds on their left hands including Jennifer Lopez and Nicola Peltz.

After the proposal, Mahomes and Matthews celebrated their engagement with a romantic candlelit dinner outside. "My heart is so full," the personal trainer wrote on Instagram. "I love this man so much and today was so so special. Couldn't imagine this day being any more perfect!"

The couple began dating as teenagers in Texas and went to prom together in 2013. Now, they live in Kansas City together and are proud parents to two dogs, Steel and Silver Mahomes.
