Super Bowl Sunday is officially here! On February 13, millions of viewers will tune in to watch the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals go head to head during Super Bowl LVI. And if you thought watching the players compete at home was stressful, just imagine how their significant others feel.
Not only do the wives and girlfriends of the NFL’s top athletes support their SOs on game day, but they’re also around for the mundane moments we spectators don’t get to see. Besides being their partner’s number one, they’re the ones who deal with the heartbreaking losses, injuries, and constant travel behind the scenes—often in addition to juggling impressive careers of their own.
Despite their schedules, football’s most adorable duos still find time to give us plenty of sweet moments to fawn over. Here are some of the NFL’s cutest couples that we’ll be keeping up with long after the football season ends.
Matthew Stafford and Kelly Stafford
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife Kelly have one of the most adorable families in the NFL. The couple has four daughters together, and Kelly regularly posts photos of the adorable squad cheering on their superstar dad both at home and at SoFi stadium.
Matthew and Kelly have been together for over 10 years, and first linked up at the University of Georgia (she was a cheerleader and he was the starting quarterback). "I couldn't have done it without her," Matthew said at a press conference following his NFC Championship win last month. "She's an unbelievable part of my life. She's been through a lot with me, and we've leaned on each other at separate times to help ourselves get whatever we're having to get through."
Joe Burrow and Olivia Holzmacher
While Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and his girlfriend Olivia Holzmacher keep many of the details about their longterm relationship private, Holzmacher is still one of the NFL player's biggest supporters both on and off the field. The pair has been together for over four years, and first started dating when they were both students at Ohio State.
Even though Burrow later transferred to LSU—where he won the National Championship in 2020—the duo remained strong, and Holzmacher was by the quarterback's side when he won the Heisman Trophy that same year. Now, the Ohio State alum can regularly be seen cheering on her beau at his NFL games—even when she can't physically be there.
Odell Beckham Jr. and Lauren Wood
2022 is shaping up to be quite the year for Odell Beckham Jr. Not only is the Los Angeles Rams wide receiver making his first Super Bowl appearance on Sunday, but he’s also preparing to be a first-time dad! The NFL player and his girlfriend Lauren Wood announced in November 2021 that they’re expecting their first child together.
The couple was initially linked back in November 2019, but have kept much of their relationship private. However, the fitness trainer did give fans a peek into her life with the pro athlete last year when she posted a sweet photo montage for his birthday. And just days before his Super Bowl debut, Lauren shared a few adorable snaps from the couple’s recent maternity shoot. “Mom & dad,” she captioned the post.
Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen
Of course, it would be impossible to talk about NFL couples without mentioning the reigning king and queen: Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen. Not only are they two of the biggest names in their respective fields—Brady has won a record seven Super Bowl titles, and Bündchen is one of the most famous supermodels in the world—but they’re also the blueprint for supportive spouses everywhere.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback has become a regular fixture in the supermodel’s fashion world, sitting front row at designer shows and co-chairing the Met Gala with her, while Bündchen is a constant presence at his NFL games. She’s also a staunch defender of his talent, famously telling a fan “My husband cannot f***ing throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time,” after his 2012 Super Bowl loss. Now that’s a support system.
Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews
Patrick Mahomes might be a Super Bowl champion now, but his fiancé Brittany Matthews was by his side way back when the Kansas City Chiefs player was still a high school quarterback. The high school sweethearts first met at their school in Texas and even attended prom together. After winning the Super Bowl in 2020, Mahomes proposed to Matthews at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Ring Ceremony, so they both left the event with some dazzling new bling.
To top off their whirlwind year, the couple announced they were expecting a baby girl just a few weeks after their engagement and welcomed Sterling Skye Mahomes in February 2021. The pair plans to marry in 2022, but in the meantime, Matthews and baby Sterling will be cheering Mahomes on all season long.
Ciara and Russell Wilson
Talk about a superstar duo! When Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and Grammy-winning artist Ciara first linked up in 2015, the world could hardly grasp how one couple could contain so much talent. Since making their public debut at a White House State Dinner, Wilson and Ciara have gone on to marry in a stunning (and secret!) ceremony at an English castle, welcome two children together, and even become partial owners of a soccer team.
They’ve also continued to support each other’s individual ventures—Wilson proudly posed in a campaign for the singer’s new clothing line, and Ciara even sported her husband’s jersey number and Super Bowl ring at this year’s Met Gala!
Rob Gronkowski and Camille Kostek
Arguably one of the most fun couples in the NFL, Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski and model Camille Kostek are constantly entertaining us with snapshots of their football and red carpet-filled lives. The pair have been dating since 2015, but even though Gronkowski was a New England Patriot and Kostek was one of the team’s cheerleaders, the two didn’t meet until after Kostek retired.
Since then, they’ve remained steady through Gronkowski’s NFL retirement (and eventual return), celebrated Kostek’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover, and even relocated to Florida when the Super Bowl champ joined the Buccaneers in 2020. Kostek has also formed a close friendship with the wife of her boyfriend’s longtime teammate, Tom Brady—Gisele Bündchen and Kostek are regularly seen cheering on their SOs together from the stands.
Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey
As the highest-paid running back in the NFL, Carolina Panthers player Christian McCaffrey is used to outrunning his opponents by a longshot. However, when it comes to social media, his girlfriend Olivia Culpo has him beat by miles. The former Miss Universe, fashion designer, and social media personality has almost five million followers on Instagram, and regularly shares glimpses of her travels, designer ensembles, and various business ventures.
McCaffrey, whom Culpo has been dating since 2019, makes frequent appearances when he’s not busy breaking NFL records. The couple also shares a toy poodle, Oliver Sprinkles, together—who of course has his own Instagram with almost 20,000 followers.
Aaron Rodgers and Shailene Woodley
When news broke that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was engaged to actress Shailene Woodley, many were surprised at the unlikely pairing. The Big Little Lies actress even told Jimmy Fallon that she hadn't seen a single football game before dating Rodgers and admitted she never thought she'd be engaged to "someone who threw balls for a living."
However, after confirming their engagement in February 2021, the couple has proven they're a dream team. They spent Rodger's offseason traveling to places like Mexico, Disney World, and Hawaii. Woodley also supported her fiancé during his run as the Jeopardy! Host, encouraging her followers to tune in to the show. However, a year into their relationship, the actress confessed that she still didn't quite understand her SO's chosen field yet. "I still am always [like], 'Oh, you scored a goal,'" she said on Late Night With Seth Meyers. "He's like, 'It's a touchdown.'"
Travis Kelce and Kayla Nicole
Even though Travis Kelce might be in excellent shape as the star tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, he could still learn a thing or two from his fitness influencer girlfriend, Kayla Nicole. While her NFL beau focuses on winning another Super Bowl ring, the entrepreneur is busy with her health and wellness brand, Strong Is Sexy.
The athletic duo, who first started dating back in 2017, somehow still finds time in their busy schedules to give us plenty of #CoupleGoals inspiration. Nicole regularly attends Kelce’s games, and she was by the football player’s side to celebrate his championship at the 2020 Super Bowl parade. If their adorable victory PDA isn’t enough to inspire envy, the couple’s lavish offseason vacations might do the trick.
