As we all know, brides everywhere have been forced to pivot and change their wedding plans this past year. Elopements, micro, at-home, and virtual weddings have now become the standard, causing bridal fashion to adjust and keep up with the current times. We've seen an uptick in brides' opting for jumpsuits and simple slip dresses, but our favorite trend thus far has been the mini dress–specifically, the Mini Caspian dress from Odylyne the Ceremony.
Created by founder and creative director, Stephanie White, the Mini Caspian is a nod to the 21st-century, new-age bride. We were lucky enough to speak to White, who gave us further insight into her brand and her inspiration behind the mini wedding dress everyone is wearing.
Odylyne the Ceremony was launched in 2014 as an alternative to modern-day bridalwear. The designer told Brides, "I started Odylyne because I was looking for a bridal dress when I was getting married, and discovered that there was nothing that resonated with me at all. I couldn't find something that was like, the alternative to bridal, you know?" After only six years in business, the brand has established itself as a dominant name in bridal fashion.
I try to think outside the box, so that's kind of where we succeeded.
When designing the Mini Caspian, White was initially inspired by a scene in the 1986 movie The Labyrinth and wanted to incorporate puff sleeves and 80s-flare, but also implement a few of the "Edwardian and Victorian styles" she loves. "I try to think outside the box, so that's kind of where we succeeded. Offering something different with a twist" she says, "It's bridal, but it's not bridal. It was like a total experiment for us." And it's safe to say that her experiment certainly worked out!
Brides-to-be have been rushing to buy this dress for their nuptials. Why? Because the Mini Caspian, as Stephanie puts it, brings "happiness and a breath of fresh air" to your big day no matter how you're able to celebrate.
With the success of this dress, the designer also exclusively told Brides that she's in the process of creating a capsule collection of civil ceremony dresses to be launched this year! You can check out more of Stephanie's designs and stay up-to-date on the brand here–and for those looking for more options, below are a few additional mini dresses we're sure you'll love!
Interested in wearing a mini dress for your wedding? Below are three common questions brides have when shopping for this look.
- Is it okay to wear a mini dress for my wedding? Yes, mini dresses are just as appropriate as traditional gowns. If a mini dress is what you'd like to wear, go for it, it's your special day!
- What accessories should I wear? This all depends on the design and style of the dress. For minis with low necklines, a statement necklace and chandelier earrings could be great. And for shoes, you could also choose to wear stilettos or ballet flats. Minis are a very versatile look!
