On the first Monday of May each year, celebrities flock to the front steps of New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art for the Met Costume Institute Gala, otherwise known at the Met Gala. Formally a fundraising benefit for Costume Institute and the opening night of each year's fashion exhibit, the Met Gala is unofficially considered one the best evenings in fashion. And with this year's theme of "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," the event—which is co-chaired by Michaela Coel, Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer, Dua Lipa, and Anna Wintour, the Met announced—delivered some of the very best fashion we've seen in years.
But the first Monday in May isn't just about epic sartorial choices; it's also about watching some of our favorite celebrity couples turn the red carpet into their very own date night. Here, we're rounding up our favorite couples from the evening, including Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, Rita Ora and Taika Waititi, Suki Waterhouse and Robert Pattinson, and more.
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban
Even after nearly 17 years together, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban rarely miss a chance for a formal date night out. Kidman stunned in a blush pink gown with a feathered skirt by Chanel while Urban looked loving on at his wife.
Rita Ora and Taika Waititi
Newlyweds Rita Ora and Taika Waititi (the duo were reportedly married during an intimate wedding ceremony in London last year!) hit the red carpet in style. According to E! News, Ora donned a black Prabal Gurung gown with sheer detailing and a long train while Waititi chose a floor-length blue jacket over beige pants.
Suki Waterhouse and Robert Pattinson
Daisy Jones and the Six star Suki Waterhouse and boyfriend Robert Pattinson looked absolutely in love on the red carpet. Waterhouse donned a spring-ready floral number while Pattinson chose a suit with a long navy jacket.
Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade
Who doesn't love to see Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade on the red carpet? The married couple (they tied the knot in 2014) served up some serious style at this year's Met Gala: Union donned a striking red jacket and matching gown while Wade wore a black jacket, black pants, and tall black boots.
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, who are expecting their second child, were one of the last couples to arrive on the Met Gala red carpet, but their looks were certainly worth waiting for.
Patrick and Brittany Mahomes
Patrick and Brittany Mahomes have officially traded the football stadium for the red carpet, and they looked great doing it. Patrick donned a classic tuxedo while Brittany looked absolutely bridal in her off-the-shoulder white gown.
Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre Elba
Idris Elba might moonlight as a wedding DJ (he performed at Meghan Markle's wedding to Prince Harry!) but the actor and his wife Sabrina Dhowre Elba never miss a chance to get all dressed up. The duo turned heads in their formalwear on the Met Gala red carpet.
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas always arrive in style, and the 2023 Met Gala red carpet was no different. The husband and wife duo donned coordinating black-and-white attire, and Chopra's structural gown—featuring a high slit—was a total statement-maker.
Salma Hayek Pinault and François-Henri Pinault
Mr. and Mrs. Pinault are enjoying their date night! Earlier this year, Salma Hayek Pinault announced that she had legally taken her husband's last name and would be using it moving forward. Wearing a floor-length red gown with a layered skirt, she looked thrilled to arrive at the Met Gala on her husband's arm.
Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian
We can't get enough of Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian! The happily married duo were perfectly coordinated in their black-and-white attire on the Met Gala red carpet.
Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furnes
Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have a lot of to celebrate tonight: Last month, Jackman announced that he had undergone a health scare (People reports he was tested for basal cell carcinoma), but he looked healthy and happy arriving with Furnes on his arm.
Seth Meyers and Alexi Ashe
Seth Meyers and wife Alexi Ashe, who will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary this September, stepped out on the red carpet in coordinating black-tie attire. Ashe donned a sleek black column gown while Meyers chose a classic black tuxedo.
Brittney and Cherelle Griner
Brittney and Cherelle Griner didn't skip the red carpet! Cherelle chose a bridal strapless white gown while Brittney donned a champagne-colored suit.
Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham
Nicola Peltz is ready to be a bride again! Just one year after marrying Brooklyn Beckham, Peltz arrived at the Met Gala on her husband's arm wearing a strapless white gown that's giving total bridal energy.
James Corden and Julia Carey
James Corden and wife Julia Carey were all smiles on the red carpet. Corden stepped out in color—he chose a powder blue tuxedo jacket—while Carey looked lovely in a neutral champagne-hued gown.
Jeremy Strong and Emma Wall
Kendall Roy has arrived at the Met! Succession star Jeremy Strong and wife Emma Wall walked the red carpet in bold style. Strong donned a brown jacket, green shirt, and black pants while Wall wore a beige dress with a structured bodice.
Eddie Redmayne and Hannah Bagshawe
Hannah Bagshawe may have married Eddie Redmayne in 2014, but she still clearly remembers what it's like to be a bride! Bagshawe donned a white gown with side cutouts while Redmayne chose an embellished tuxedo.
Roger and Mirka Federer
Roger Federer, one of the evening's hosts, arrived on the red carpet early. Joined by his wife, Mirka, the tennis pro donned a classic black tuxedo by Dior Men and black sunglasses for the night.
Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye Smith
It's been over two decades since Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye Smith said "I do," but the pair still look lovestruck on the Met Gala's red carpet.
Josh Groban and Natalie McQueen
Signer Josh Groban used the 2023 Met Gala as an opportunity to make it red carpet official with his new girlfriend, Natalie McQueen. The duo stepped out in coordinating black attire.
Andy Roddick and Brooklyn Decker
Married since 2009, model Brooklyn Decker and tennis star Andy Roddick are no strangers to attending red carpet events together, but that didn't dampen the fun they had making their entrance at the Met Gala. She stunned in a wedding-worthy white gown while he wore a black tuxedo.
